of the abortion draft opinionAssociate Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, who was part of the conservative majority that overturned Roe v. Wade in June, said he's anticipating a report on the investigation into the leaked draft opinion on that abortion rights case.
"The chief justice appointed an internal committee to oversee the investigation," Gorsuch told the 10th Circuit Bench and Bar Conference in Colorado on Thursday, the Wall Street Journal reported. "That committee has been busy and we're looking forward to their report, I hope soon."
The unprecedented leak of a draft Supreme Court majority opinion shocked the nation in May, roughly a month before the court was due to release its final ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. At the time, Chief Justice John Roberts condemned the leak and directed the court marshal to launch an investigation.
Gorsuch similarly denounced the leak during his remarks on Thursday, calling efforts to influence decision-making a "threat" to the judicial process, per the WSJ.

Sam Alito leaked it. If anyone else gets blamed they're just a scapegoat.

Theyll pin it on a clerk for the rational justices. You can take that to the bank. And having made such a big ducking deal about if they cant just quietly report that its been dealt with.

(8,964 posts)What has folks riled up at the moment is the actual DECISION to overturn. If you have any curiosity as to the magnitude of abolishing the long-standing right if a woman to make personal decisions, tune in to post-election news coverage come November. I can guarantee you, there will be nary a mention of said leak.

And, if she did it, that is OK with me.

How will the Repuke party and SCOTUS characters reconcile the damage? This should be interesting to see the squirming and sweating when the results come in.
I was dreading the November election, but I think the women (and men sympathetic to their plight), are going to finally get through their thick skulls that you don't mess with women's rights.

It served two purposes. 1. Put pressure on the other 3 so they wouldn't/couldn't change their minds. 2. It allowed Ginni to take a pre-emptive victory lap for all the groups she works for. Wouldn't be surprised if she didn't up her fee.
