Her professional experience was so limited that she was forced to admit on her Sen Judiciary Comm questionnaire that she had never made any speeches, produced any reports, participated in any panel discussions, spoke at any conferences or written for any bar association. 2/5
In her twelve years as a lawyer, she published no writings of her own and just 3 writings done with colleagues at Gibson Dunn -- limited to promotional articles on cases handled by the firm for their own website. 3/5
In an attempt to show writing experience, Cannon listed 17 short articles from a 2-mo undergrad stint at El Nuevo Herald. ranging from "Prenatal Yoga" to "Flamenco: An Explosion of Energy and Passion." Cannon is unclear on whether she authored or simply edited the articles. 4/5
Finally, the questionnaire for a LIFETIME judicial appt asks Cannon to list all interviews she has given to the media. Cannon lists only her wedding article in a local magazine as her only media experience.(5/5)

(10,012 posts)The Federalist Society seems to be an extremist wing of the Catholic Church, similar to Opus Dei. Both have common beliefs with white Christian evangelicals, such as anti-any LGBTQ rights or even the right to openly be LGBTQ. And of course they oppose abortion for any reason, including to save a womans life or to end a pregnancy that shows an unviable fetus. The role of women is solely to be mothers and domestic drudges.
McConnell certainly is responsible for pushing unqualified judges onto federal courts, but it is the Federalist Society that chose those judges. It would be interesting to see a tally of all the judges Trump appointed to see how many of them are members of the Federalist Society.

(145,321 posts)MoscowMitch had pushed and gotten a large number of Federalist goons confirmed and the Federalist society was running out of qualified candidates. Cannon was rated at qualified (but not Well Qualified) by the ABA.

Here is an example of another lowlife Federalist Idiot who the ABA rated as not qualfied

(15,540 posts)We had a freakin' ignoramus with ZERO experience in any form of government and he became President and that was just AOK with millions of voters. This revelation on Cannon shouldn't be so shocking to us.

(28,477 posts)She's 38 and I'm 58. She can't remember if she wrote or edited articles in Spanish when she was an undergrad 20 years ago. I was in undergrad in the late '90s and can damn well remember if I researched something to write about it or just cleaned up grammar for someone else. This woman is a hot mess.

(6,182 posts)Is there a listing service called "Unqualified-R-Us" that they can go to?
I guess her only qualifications are subservience and a profound sense of gratification at getting a job she could never be qualified for.

(7,901 posts)she appears to be writing now? Which member of the Federalist Society is coaching her on process, legal language, and GOP dogma?
IMO the DOJ needs to subpoena her phone and email records for evidence of undue influences on federal proceedings (or legal language to that effect) by parties with an inappropriate interest in the case. It seems painfully self-evident she isn't competent to have authored alone anything she's presented up to now.

(19,204 posts)And no, not the two reasons we might expect from Donald Trump.
She was very young, and she was a member of, and approved by, the Federalist Society.
Next time there's a republican president - and it will happen someday - you're looking at the next Supreme Court Justice nominee. They want to stack the SC with young, malleable, ultra-conservative Justices.

(639 posts)She's not the most qualified for the Federal bench, and I think she could have used a stint as a Magistrate Judge, but as the ABA found, she was qualified. She:
- graduated with a B.A. from Duke University;
- before going to law school with she worked as a paralegal for two years with the U.S. DOJ, Civil Rights Division, Criminal Section (I kinda dig that. I worked as a paralegal before law school to see if I really wanted to do this);
- graduated with a J.D. from Michigan Law School magna cum laude;
- was a summer associate with both Squire Sanders and Gibson Dunn, both excellent big law firms;
- clerked for a justice in the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals;
- was an litigation associate with Gibson Dunn in D.C. for 3 years doing white collar work;
- Was an Assistant U.S.A. in the S.D. Florida for 7 years, first doing prosecutions, then appellate work.
That's a good resume for 13 years of practice and 95% of it was in the Federal courts. If she was on our side nobody would look at this and say she was unqualified. The ABA looked at it and thought she was qualified. Yeah, part of me would like to see someone more seasoned, but from a political position, if this was a Obama/Biden appointee, I would be ok with some late 30s/early 40s attorneys on the bench just for the longevity.
Everyone here is focusing on her lack of publications and speaking engagements and well, ok, so what? Lots of practicing attorneys hate to do that. I hate to do that. Plus, I'm sure she made a concerted effort not to publish as I'd bet she's wanted to be a judge for awhile and its better not to have a published record that can be reviewed.
Anyways, hit her on her decisions? Sure. On her resume? Seems dumb to me.
