But I don't need to watch hours of it either.

Let's hope Rachel doesn't do an hour of it on Monday.

I was pleased to hear that President Biden is planning to attend the Queen's funeral. Guessing Tre45on won't be invited.

with their eyelids taped open and forced to watch news coverage about the death of the Queen, an elderly, despotic head of state who was born into wealth and spent her life grifting her people, only to be replaced by another elderly man who accepts the reality of climate change.

Oh, wait....

Movies are not good because one has to actively watch. Same with sitcoms. So its news or game shows or documentary. I can't read and sew. Music works for a while. Silence is well silent lol. So news is on a lot. Although there is a truck race tonight.

Many people are interested in that. I'm not, but I don't mind if others are. The monarch of the UK is just a symbolic historical figure. Important to some, but not to others. I'm not bothered.

Given my Irish heritage, my fascination with the British royals is odd, but there you go.

Also, QEII was the longest serving head of state in history? Her passing and her career, are worth remarking on.

We were discussing earlier that our Irish ancestors may be watching us in disbelief.

And on my dad's side I have several Revolutionary War veterans including one who was at Lexington on April 19, 1775 they may all be wondering where I went wrong.

As you said, it's history. I'm half a history major. The other was journalism, so I'm a news junkie. A double major was a requirement and I've always loved history.

I've found it interesting and always love looking at London since it's been quite a while since I was there the last time.

A very rich English woman with some Scots ancestry died. She left enormous wealth and power to her son.
That wealth and power will reshape the structure of wealth and power among some other rich and powerful families. Of which mine is not.

This event and the inheritance surely will ripple in some small way into my world, and yours, in the center of North America, but in a very very smallish ripple of a way. Among the things that could make me grumpy it's not even a miss-shappen and wormy turnip from my garden.

Old people die. Yes, they do. We all will.

Old people pass their wealth, and consequently power, down to their chosen heirs. Nothing newsy there.

What's to be grumpy about?

This is quiet concretely situation normal.

And frankly, we need a bit of normal so we can learn to accept it, as if it -IS- normal and expected.

I am, honestly, getting sick of multiple threads every day about people getting mad about what the news is covering, and what it’s not.
This is a special time in history, the death of an icon, and the ascension of a King. It really has only ceremonial importance today, he really won’t rule” his Kingdom, but I look forward to seeing what a Coronation looks like.
