I just heard a story about Queen Elizabeth on the BBC. A man who had served in a war zone was invited to lunch at the palace only weeks later. Her was seated next to her. And he had major trauma that was interfering in his ability to participate in even talking.
When she turned to him she acknowledged what he experienced. She was Queen, but she also lived through the Blitz. She and her family served in multiple wars.
She saw his panic and asked if she could help him. With that, she had a tin of dog treats delivery to the lunch table, and, with guests all around, she focused only on him and the two of them feeding the corgis.
For 20 minutes.
Dog therapy. From a monarch. For a traumatized guy who needed kindness, not pageantry.
And found it.
May we all be remembered as we were. Not perfect. Definitely with all our quirks.
And willing to feed the dogs at the table.

(6,890 posts)She promised at her coronation to serve her country and peple all her life, and she did her absolute level best to keep that promise. She didn't do it perfectly (like who does?) but she didn't do so badly at that, all things considered.
