Justice Roberts crybags to his peers at Colorado Springs conference that...

the people are being mean and thinks the court is a joke. We can only judge by results of your actions.

I know Denver is the hub for a Court District but, Colorado Springs is home for Christian Dominionist nut jobs. Just saying.

Sat Sep 10, 2022, 10:50 AM

Society due to information age is becoming rather fuzzy around the boundaries. Lots of professions have helper professionals. Does anyone obey the law after the age of Trump? Law is a slap on the wrist, a badge of honor when broken. Only fools obey everything. Fines are a pittance in an age of loose capital and low interest, a cost of doing business, never tied to ability to pay just flat fees like a ticket to the show.

Roberts has become an old windbag in part because he presided over an archaic judicial bureaucracy and had not the inclination or skills to modernize it, in my opinion.

but your Colorado Springs reference jogged my memory. We were on a trip some years ago to Colorado, visiting family in the Denver area, as we try to do every few years. We took a side trip to CS, as is the custom, to visit my mom's old stomping grounds. Checking into a hotel not far from the AF academy, I noticed they did not have the typical display of brochures of local attractions for the tourists. When I asked the desk clerk about that she apologized, but then said the only must-see attraction in the area was the damn Focus on the Family compound and that we just "had to go see it.". I bit my tongue and just smiled politely at her brainwashed self.

27. He has made the Supremely Religious Court a political interest group
Sat Sep 10, 2022, 11:38 AM
Sep 2022

“If the court doesn’t retain its legitimate function of interpreting the Constitution, I’m not sure who would take up that mantle,” he said. “You don’t want the political branches telling you want the law is. And you don’t want public opinion to be the guide of what the appropriate decision is."

But he does let the political parties tell him what the Constitution says, along with priests and pastors.

The Supremely Religious Court has no right in the Constitution to interpret the Constitution for all of America. And yes you do want the legislature telling you what the law is. That's why law making is in the legislative branch and Not the judiciary. What's constitutional should be left up to the people and their elected representatives. We can read. We can decide what it says for ourselves.

The court should stick to interpreting legislation and using precident and the law to make rulings instead of using political conservatism and religion. They are making laws from the bench and picking presidents. Both of which are not in the powers as defined by the constitution.

This is what happens to the judiciary when a dictator or king takes over. They are merely political hatchet men and women. They willy nilly decide how to make life hell in the US.

Sat Sep 10, 2022, 11:43 AM
Sep 2022

We may win wars with our wasteful and overly expensive military machine but without the important fact, we are nothing. We de-facto govern around the world with impunity but when the other nations come to see us as something other than a democratic republic, we are reduced to a target of ridicule by those seeking justice. We may frustrate our best intentions with partisan gamesmanship and entertain ourselves with mass delusion but so long as there is an election day in the future, a legitimate hope survives. When elitists attempt to wall the will of the voters they fail in every eventuality.

If all that is true, then what the hell is the USSC doing dismissing and mistaking the all-important common will of the people at so many junctures? Why do they have that power?

The judiciary should NEVER rule against the will of the majority. To do so is the definition of elitism. They shouldn't be considered an equal branch of government unless they're selected by majority vote. Rack up another big miss by the founding fathers.

35. I wonder why the court's legitimacy is in question
Sat Sep 10, 2022, 12:14 PM
Sep 2022

Maybe it's...

1. A sitting president was denied filling a vacancy.
2. While a twice-impeached president appointed three.
3. And one of those appointments involved a deal for an early retirement with a justice whose son was the twice-impeached president's banker.
4. While another succeeded after the FBI failed to investigate charges of sexual assault
5. And these appointees voted to overturn 50-year precedent with a majority opinion that gutted the right to privacy implicit in the Constitution
6. And ignored a 13th-Amendment ban on involuntary servitude
7. And invoked pre-Enlightenment opinions by a prosecutor of witches.

There must be other reasons as clearly these obvious reasons that so easily come to mind must be insufficient for questioning the court's legitimacy. Right?

The impact killing Roe would do. Absolutely no critical thinking skills on display. Linked to some prestigious old universities how is it they didn’t follow their thoughts to the logical conclusion?
Are they so blind to the everyday citizen’s life they didn’t expect blowback?

There are times I think to myself that they want the Democrats to take charge of the country.
If they can’t figure out reaction to a fervently desired right and then leave themselves set up for citizens to think about what’s next…Social Security? Medicare?

Go ahead and cry your eyes out.
