Walmart moving towards sustainable bags

Signs were reportedly seen outside a Walmart in the state warning customers of the move, KRDO reports.

It initially said the ban on plastic bags would begin on September 15 but the signs have reportedly since been removed.

“Walmart has been exploring alternatives to single-use carryout bags from our stores since 2021 while prioritizing our customers’ convenience and product safety, including through the Beyond the Bag Consortium,” a Walmart spokesperson told KRDO.

“In the US, we have transitioned from plastic bags in Vermont, Maine and New Jersey and, starting early 2023, we expect to eliminate single-use carryout bags in Colorado as well—with reusable bags available for purchase at multiple prices.

at all. M

But, they have absolutely the wost paper bags. They rip when you look at them and will barely hold a few loaves of bread from the cashier to the car.

At least the bread is cheap.

Philly has a plastic bag ban. Walmart switched from plastic bags to super plastic bags. They are made of a sturdier, thicker plastic. They are meant to be reused, but people still discard them like regular plastic bags.

They will still sell you a paper bag for $0.05, but most people purchase the reusable ones, or bring them from home.
Ideally, we should switch to canvas bags that can last for years. As a librarian, my wife has dozens of them she got from vendors at conferences and book expos.

and have become a major source of land fills. They are better than single use bags only in that they don't end up in the ocean killing marine life.

Can't believe walmart is so far behind the curve on this.
