Report: Russia Spent At Least $300M On Election Interference

The information was sent by the State Department to U.S. embassies around the world.

WASHINGTON — Russia has covertly given at least $300 million to political parties, officials and politicians in more than two dozen countries since 2014, and plans to transfer hundreds of millions more, with the goal of exerting political influence and swaying elections, according to a State Department summary of a recent U.S. intelligence review.

Given the breadth and depth to which so many have taken to Moscow's chaos-narratives, its intrusion into top-tier journalism, its embrace by so much of the conservative electorate and leadership, $300 million seems surprisingly low to me.

If it was $300 million, Moscow made a good investment in stupid people with a weirdly successful payoff; lack of faith in the voting system and a shameless denial of science at the height of the pandemic being the two most recent and obvious I can think of.
