There is overwhelming evidence of how deeply flawed our species is - narcissism!
Think about it - "my religion and no one else's"
"my god - everyone else is wrong"
"My color, or my race, or my sexual orientation, or my taste in arts, or wine, or books - it is the only legit one - everyone else is wrong"
"My party - all of the others are wrong"
and so on.
What brought this on? A fascinating article in the NYT about the search for life elsewhere.

It is well worth reading (sorry about the paywall).
In the article are some opinions that there can't be life elsewhere - because WE are special, chosen by god, etc.
Think of where we are right now politically, in terms of climate change, wars - it all comes down to "I am right, everyone else is wrong".
Of course there is some clear absolute rights and wrongs - what Putin is doing, racism, trump's criminality, what we are doing to the climate.
But the fact that these monsters and examples exist at all - that these people have actual followings, that cults form - is because we as humans have a bug, not a feature of...narcissism. It leads to stolen elections that are legit, an earth that is flat (not!), and all other manner of bullshit fringe cult stuff.
