Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMeanwhile, the January 6th investigation is full steam ahead.
As Trump, and most of the nation, has been focused on the "stolen documents" investigation, Merrick Garland and the DOJ have been busy hunting down the possible culprits in the attack upon our Capitol. Dozens have been subpoenaed to testify under oath. We can only guess what information they have gathered?
They have been hot on the money trail, including circumstances around the creation of Trump's "Save America" PAC. (The reports are that he has used the funds in this PAC to pay for his present expensive legal team) I found one of their subpoenas especially interesting, the one for Victoria Toensing, the wife of Joseph Di Genova. If we recall correctly, they were working with the Russians and their "agents" for a while?
The January6th Committee has stated their intent to have another hearing the 28th of this month. No doubt, they have accumulated a truckload of information since their last meeting. They will inform the public of some of their recent findings and witness testimonies. They will likely turn over most of their information to the DOJ for their criminal investigation and begin work on their final report to the American people.
The "stolen documents" scandal can sit on the back burner for a while, as Trump and his lawyers play their legal games. There is more exposure coming down the road.
Much more.

(504 posts)There is no way in hell a democrat would get away with threatening election officials, raiding the US Capitol, building and stealing gov documents.
Of course, they believe they'll be given a pardon someday.

(111,110 posts)....as soon as they can install another Republican in the White House. Do you believe Merrick Garland is going to let them slide?

(21,414 posts)he will consider the sanctity of conversations between a president and his Chief of Staff. Mark Meadows is the key person, the John Dean to get to Trump. Meadows was involved in all of it and he is the person who kept Trump's hands clean of wrongdoing.
I'm afraid it's Steve Kornacki time now. Republicans get a 60 day grace period where they can't be indicted. Meadows can't even be questioned about the stolen classified documents until after the Special Master and judge Cannon allow it.

(4,913 posts)These investigations are broad and involve scores of people. Prosecutors are investigating a wide range of Federal and State crimes.
Obstructing Congress, obstructing justice, conspiracy, election fraud, wire fraud, bribery, obstructing a Federal grand jury, perjury, forgery. Did I miss anything? Oh yea, stealing top secret documents and lying about it.

(111,110 posts)If they are the majority, they will have many more options than they do as the minority. That will cause dissension and division within their Party, in my opinion.

(111,110 posts)Being in the majority would permit them more time for introspection and opposition. I cannot see the Republicans uniting on very few issues. We should not assume they will be taking orders from Trump. Just my opinion.

(4,913 posts)They will start fake investigations into Hunter Biden, Fauci, the J6 committee, etc. It will be a freak show. It's up to the American people to save themselves. No one else. They must keep the Republicans out of power.

(21,414 posts)they can do real harm, not just freak shows.

(111,110 posts)Even if they are the majority, they will remain very divided.
They will be very careful investigating January 6th or the theft of documents or any scandal they may have been complicit in.
They may be united on Hunter Biden's laptop and the impeachment of Joe Biden but otherwise, they will be in disarray, in my opinion.
