All of this dancing was/is to get proper access to the classified docs so the dni could do a proper damage assessment.

The doj already has classified docs tfg returned in the first round they could use for espionage act purposes.

Obstruction can be proven without the classified docs. And then there are the countless other laws he has broken since leaving orifice.

So really I don't think this is holding back an indictment. It was holding back the dni though.

Now, we still need an actual indictment.

it doesn't appear that he's going to do him any favors wrt to keeping the documents.

Of all the possible people in the world, TFG named two, and he was one of them. There must have been some reason. What is it? I have no idea. But they didn't pick his name at random. We should expect the other shoe to drop, sooner or later.

although even if that were true, his function as SM has nothing to do with the FBI anyhow.

Lawyers and advisers to the former president believe Dearie's role on the secretive court that approved controversial warrants used to surveil former Trump campaign aide Carter Page in 2016 and 2017 made Dearie a deep skeptic of the FBI....

Dearie's seven years on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, including during the Page case, is a matter of public record and has been reported. But it has not been previously reported that this experience drove the Trump team's thinking in requesting him.

Dearie could not be reached for comment. He has not made any public comments — that Axios is aware of — to suggest that the Trump team's thinking is more than a hope or a theory. And, he will be reviewing the documents themselves for privilege, not reviewing representations about the documents by the FBI.

Which would answer the "why did Cannon make tRump have to pay for the Special Master?" question.

Though with his track record, any lawyer knows they won't be paid at all, so .....

Judge Dearie was the judge that signed off on the FBI warrants to surveil Page. Then a couple of the FBI agents got caught making false statements. Trump thought this would make Judge Dearie skeptical of the FBI. That's what Trump gets for thinking, DUH!

He just had to come up with a couple of names to satisfy the Judge's request.

He miscalculated.
