(7,809 posts)I know people who live just south of Tampa Bay. In fact, I talked to them earlier today and they did not mention evacuating. They live about a mile from sea water.

(118,677 posts)storm surge mostly. Sandy too I think. The storm surge builds up when the hurricane is very strong and does not reduce as fast as the winds do when the hurricane becomes a lesser category storm. And Hurricane Ian is building again.

(13,516 posts)mentioned on another social media group that I heard Tampa would likely be hit by this hurricane. I had a guy answer me back (rather angrily) that his weather app for the last three days said it would only hit the panhandle of FL. I didnt answer him back. Not worth my time.

(118,677 posts)time. Some people get set in their ways quite quick. Hurricanes can turn quickly. It may change yet again s it is only nearly over Cuba right now.

I do not remember if the hotel was that much higher than the beach. I do not remember stairs or anything.

There will be a mess because the GOP legislature has made homeowners insurance impossible.
