I just had a scary thought about elections.

The federal election results are determined by a tally of the individual states electors as provided by the individual states. Not the total vote of the entire country. Right now those are determined by the states total tally of all the voters in the state.

What if the states decided to go the same way as the national election? ie: the state electors are determined by the counties in the state. The winner of each county determines who the states elector in the federal election.

The rural vote would win in probably every state. New York State has 62 counties. New York City is only 5 counties. I think the New York electors would tally up to the rural vote, no longer the NYC vote.

Is this correct?
