Newest addition to Trump's legal team sidelined in Mar-a-Lago search case

TFG's $3 million attorney is not leading the fight in the document case

https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/27/politics/chris-kise-trump-mar-a-lago/index.html

The newest addition to former President Donald Trump’s legal team, Chris Kise, has been sidelined from the Mar-a-Lago documents investigation less than a month after he was brought on to represent Trump in the matter, two sources familiar with the move tell CNN.

Kise is expected to remain on Trump’s legal team but is not leading the work related to the federal government’s investigation into how the former President handled 11,000 documents seized from his Florida home in August following a lengthy effort by the government to retrieve them. The reason for the shift in Kise’s role remains unclear and he may instead focus his efforts on the other investigations Trump is facing, which range from his business practices to the January 6 insurrection.

The move is notable given Kise, the former solicitor general for Florida, was brought on to the team after a weeks-long search and struggle to find someone willing to take on the case who was also experienced in Florida law. The legal strategy for fighting the Justice Department following the August seizure of over 100 documents marked as classified was also in disarray.

Kise’s hiring came with an unusual price tag of $3 million, paid for by Trump’s outside spending arm. The retainer fee, paid upfront, raised eyebrows among other lawyers on Trump’s team, given the former President has a developed a reputation for not paying his legal fees.

His sidelining will likely be read as another setback for Trump as he faces multiple investigations.

for a foreign country? That alone should disqualify him to be part of any review of any classified documents.

Yeah, for the last 40 years. It sounds like Kise somehow figured that out while the other lawyers on Trump's team bought that "Of course I'll still respect you in the morning" line from him.

I'm guessing those other lawyers now see a Charms Blow Pop when they look in the mirror. Suckers.

Kise may not want to be tied to this stunt. The ruling of the 11th Circuit was predictable and in accordance with established law. Kise may not want to be tied to this stunt

10. Trump is 'quiet quitting' special master case after making 'terrible blunder': legal expert

The sideling of TFG's $3 million lawyer and the failure to hire a data vendor makes sense if you understand that TFG have given up on the Special Master litigation. The 11th Circuit killed the underlying premise of that case by holding that declassification is a red herring in that TFG would never be entitled to the documents in question even if they were declassified.

TFG is not going to find any attorney who will lie for TFG and make the dumb arguments that TFG has made.

Former general counsel of the FBI Andrew Weissmann explained why he thinks Donald Trump is "quiet quitting" his special master case.
Weissmann, alongside former Deputy Assistant Attorney General Harry Litman was interviewed by MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell.

Special master Raymond Dearie ordered Trump's lawyers to secure a document vendor, but in a Tuesday legal filing, the Department of Justice said none of the five major firms want to work for Trump, so the federal government guaranteed payment.

"I think there is something we can take away from what seems like a small potatoes kind of thing," Weissmann said. "I think what Donald Trump is doing is quiet quitting. He brought this case and he realized he is worse off from having brought this case."

Weissman noted reports attorney Chris Kise left only weeks after being paid $3 million.
