(66,377 posts)I wonder if the Russians are doing what the Germans did late in WWII. Entire divisions would be whittled down to company and even platoon size due to attrition and the lack of replacements, but they would still refer to them as divisions, and that's how they would appear on the maps. That may be one reason for Hitler's delusions in the bunker that he had whole armies to move around and that would "turn the tide" of the war. We know how that turned out.
Russia might be doing the same thing. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that this 'Combined Arms Army' is no more than battalion-sized or less.
