(8,203 posts)Each year the Medicare Part B premium, deductible, and coinsurance rates are determined according to the Social Security Act. The standard monthly premium for Medicare Part B enrollees will be $164.90 for 2023, a decrease of $5.20 from $170.10 in 2022. The annual deductible for all Medicare Part B beneficiaries is $226 in 2023, a decrease of $7 from the annual deductible of $233 in 2022.
The 2022 premium included a contingency margin to cover projected Part B spending for a new drug, Aduhelm. Lower-than-projected spending on both Aduhelm and other Part B items and services resulted in much larger reserves in the Part B account of the Supplementary Medical Insurance (SMI) Trust Fund, which can be used to limit future Part B premium increases.

rug treatment is estimated to cost US$56,000 per year, and Biogen's CEO stated that they would maintain this price for at least four years.[59][60] In their 10 June 2021 article, Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) researchers said that a conservative estimate of the cost to Medicare would be $USD29 billion in one year. This is based on 500,000 Medicare patients potentially receiving Aduhelm. To put this in perspectivein 2019, "total Medicare spending for all doctor-administered drugs reached $37bn."

(3,503 posts)A DECREASE? Not a peep!
They can't use the price of gasoline to complain of anymore.
I guess they're back to the cost of crudités.

(6,831 posts)This increase in funding accompanied by a decrease in give back to the healthcare industry is a HUGE TELL. New management is in charge and that's the message we should all acknowledge as the light at the end of this tunnel of pro greed authoritarianism.
