https://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/Newsom-is-basically-untouchable-poll-says-17443809.phpNewsom, who first won his gubernatorial race by more than 20 percentage points in 2018, then defeated a 2021 recall attempt by a similar margin, is leading Republican state Sen. Brian Dahle 58% to 31% in a new Public Policy Institute of California poll released Wednesday
The vote breakdown by political party strongly suggests Newsom's lead is insurmountable. Newsom is leading independent voters 55% to 35%, which is very bad news for Dahle. Furthermore, Newsom has the support of 90% of California Democrats, and in a state where Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-1, that's a death knell for his opponent. No non-Democrat is going to win statewide office without garnering significant support from Democratic voters. Dahle also has support from only 81% of California Republicans, meaning Newsom is doing a better job of consolidating his party's voters than Dahle is.

Greens Sports Bar's Yelp reviews describe horrible bartenders, so forget that one.
Danny Coyle's on Lower Haight - Give 'em a call and see if they're putting the game on. http://www.dannycoyles.com/
The Ha-Ra Club http://www.harasf.com/
The Ha-Ra Club has been an icon in the Tenderloin neighborhood since 1947. Aside from drinks, the bar has pool tables and airs the NFL games on its 4K televisions. Fans cheering for any team are welcome, but Packer fans take game day to the next level here. The local Green Bay Packers Meet Up group chooses this as its place to come together and make Packer presence known. For those special occasions, such as birthday parties or group celebrations, Ha-Ra has keg tables for reservation.
Kilowatt https://kilowattbar.com/
The raised flags waving outside this bar say it all. There is a San Francisco 49ers flag and a Green Bay Packers flag attached to the same pole and flapping in the wind together. The volume at Kilowatt when the two teams are playing each other is through the roof. There are nine HD televisions around the bar so fans dont miss a play. The dive bar atmosphere and 21 local beers on tap make it the perfect place to indulge in sports or just hang out. For those not interested in the game, there are pool tables, video games and dart boards to entertain. Kilowatt is open every day and night of the week and opens its doors early on game day.

(5,104 posts)I'm a lifelong California native who has been deeply interested in politics since I was a young child and think of myself as someone who is fairly well-informed when it comes to politics.
But if someone put a gun to my head and said "you better name Gavin Newsom's Republican opponent in the governor's race," it would be lights out for me.
Brian Dahle has zero visibility in this race.
Saying Newsom is "untouchable" is almost an understatement.

(17,117 posts)if Gavin decides to run. "This is what Gavin Newsom presided over in California. This is what he has planned for the entire Nation. Don't let this happen to you - Vote for Donald Trump Jr."

(8,678 posts)I suspect he can turn it into a positive. Something like.. here in California we actual care about those who are struggling financially. As opposed to those in some other states who ship humans out they dont want.

CA politics carries a major stigma.
He should stay and keep CA on course.

(12,445 posts)I worry about him nationally, though...
And would rather keep him in the Governor's Mansion here in CA.

(6,395 posts)Polls stated that the majority did not like the lock down during COVID. So they thought there was an avenue. Well guess what, sure, most weren't happy about the lockdown, I mean, come on? Who would like it? But, it was accepted because everyone knew it was the responsible thing to do. Sure as hell didn't want to be like Florida and Texas.
They thought they could knock out a rising star, but not only fail in that, but push him further. Hope they wasted a lot of money on the recall.

(17,056 posts)Not only do they call it "Cali" (dead giveaway), but they think Newsom is unpopular because he was recalled. I remember one of the CNN hosts was agog because Newsom was daring to run ads in Florida, saying "but he was recalled." The guest had to remind her that it takes almost nothing to recall someone in CA, and of course he won the recall vote against Larry Elder by a huge margin.

(12,659 posts)NorCal is different from SoCal. The Central Valley is it's own thing altogether. There are close to five, maybe seven distinct regions within the state itself, whether you consider them regions by economics or politics.
Even within regions there are pockets and enclaves of differing political and social attitudes. The only thing in common is that there's a (grudging) dependency between all the regions that needs to remain in place if we want to remain the fifth largest economy in the world.
And for all that we Californians are supposed to be godless, I daresay there are more churches, temples, religious entities, etc per capita than in any other state.
California is a true melting pot.

(5,104 posts)when people refer to our fine state as "Cali."
Much like people in "the City" would get bent if you called their city "Frisco."
I HATE it.
Please. No.

(21,675 posts)As a 3rd Gen Californian who has lived in both Northern and Southern Cal, it matters less than shite what one nicknames it, IMO. There are more important things to be indignant about than this. No place is perfect, but I found my 'place' in Sacramento County, and I'll be here until I die. Cheers!
