AccuWeather meteorologists say impacts from powerful Hurricane Ian will last well beyond the storm's point of impact in Florida. As the calendar flips from September to October, Ian's projected path is expected to spread flooding rain and significant coastal concerns northward across the Southeast.
The latest Ian Eye Path® from AccuWeather's expert team shows the hurricane making the second landfall in its life cycle near or south of the Tampa Bay metro area late Wednesday or early Thursday.
A quick loss in wind intensity is projected as Ian slows down and encounters land after crashing ashore. Despite the fact that Ian will be downgraded on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, the storm's impacts will worsen and expand in reach, AccuWeather forecasters say.
"No matter how quickly Ian loses wind intensity after moving inland, tropical rainfall is forecast to impact more than half a dozen states into Saturday," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Courtney Travis said.

So with Ian, Georgia is going to have a hurricane that comes from land. Yikes.

(32,086 posts)Along with tropical storm-force winds. I'm about 100 miles inland, but right in the projected path. We could sure use the rain, but not all at once. But, that's how it goes around here--a dry Fall, with usually one or two soakers from remnants of hurricanes.
