America has millions of people who will vote to end their own well being. The Republicans they vote for want to, and will, kill all the programs of the social safety net that benefits them and all of us. They want to "own the libs." And they're willing to fuck themselves beyond repair in exchange for that "ownership."
Republicans have always hated government programs that help Americans live well, and provide some comfort in old age. They call such programs "welfare." On the other hand, they'll vote for huge tax cuts (for their wealthy owners) and not recognize that's welfare for the "haves."
And if the Republicans gain full power, they won't stop with killing all the social programs Dems created over the past 80 years. How far will they go? As far as they want to go. They will establish their "White Christian Nation." And what will they do with everyone else? Whatever they want to do.
We saw how far fascists and fascism would go in the last century. No sane person wants a world like that. But, evidently, most Republican voters are too ignorant, or filled with hate, to realize they're voting for a world that will oppress and virtually enslave them.

(2,496 posts)utter havoc and implode the economy. There are 64 million Americans on Medicare and receiving social security, and another 35 million on Obamacare. Thats 30% of the population. What would it do to the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries to suddenly end those benefits (earned benefits, I might add). What would it do to society when millions of elderly suddenly have to move in with their adult children, or simply die of cold and hunger and medical neglect?
There would be mass riots in the streets. And the Republicans wont have anyone to blame but themselves. Not that that will stop them.

(65,159 posts)They can perform their political theater by pushing it, knowing Biden will veto it, and they won't have override votes.
So, they can pretend they tried to "save" social security or Medicare, knowing that since it won't really happen there'll never be a backlash.
They don't believe in governance so show is all they've got.
