And, in the middle of it all, a woman with a background in military counterintelligence who investigators believe was sent to Texas from Tampa in order to fill the planes.
Until now, little has been known about the woman whom migrants said identified herself only by her first name, Perla, when she solicited them to join the flights. A person briefed on the San Antonio Sheriffs office investigation into the matter told The New York Times that the person being looked at in connection with the operation is a woman named Perla Huerta.
Ms. Huerta, a former combat medic and counterintelligence agent, was discharged last month after two decades in the U.S. Army that included several deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, according to military records.
A Venezuelan migrant who was working with Ms. Huerta to recruit migrants confirmed her identity, and a migrant in San Antonio whom Ms. Huerta had unsuccessfully sought to sign up identified a photo of her in an interview with The Times. Several of the migrants on Marthas Vineyard photographed her during the recruitment process in San Antonio, according to Rachel Self, a lawyer representing the migrants. Lawyers working with them were able to match those photos with others online and in social media belonging to a woman named Perla Huerta.

(38,438 posts)do this, were connected to DeSantis....How did DeSantis get the idea to kidnap people to Massachusetts.
The neatest part of it all, lots of migrants in Florida, and former migrants. Do you suppose that they like
the idea of their governor putting migrants on a plane, for housing and food, and be taken to Massachusetts,
and just left there? I don't think so. Do You?

(28,484 posts)during his speeches before that. I assume it's because Obama bought a house there. The kidnapping idea was probably piggybacking on Abbott's busses.
I was also struck by Perla's counterintelligence background. I'd figured her for some MTG-wannabe, but this is far more sinister. I'm thinking Constellis Holdings (formerly Blackwater) operations to destabilize our government for the Q Morons. I wonder if we'll learn if Perla got a job with them when she left the service.

(25,981 posts)Not only do they deserve all the help we can give them, everyone involved in lying to them and manipulating them for political gain should be found and punished. Put DeSantis at the very top of the list, and Perla right below him.

'retired' is officially at 30 years.

(2,167 posts)Rank E-6 and above can fully retire honorably at 20 years of service. Myself, for instance.
So I dont know if discharged was deliberately used to describe leaving the service involuntarily, or is just a sloppy word choice by the reporter.
Time will divulge more details about her, Im sure.

(82,849 posts)And this is how Perla Huerta interprets her military oath? Lying to asylum-seekers. Kidnapping them. Transporting them across state lines with bogus processing papers. Papers that set them up to break the law and ruin their chances of escaping the dangerous countries they fled. Is that what serving in the military taught Huerta?

(49,992 posts)Yes, there are many who serve with honor and dignity but unfortunately there are too many like her that are a stain on the service.
