14-year old Arizona girl denied refill of life-saving drug due to Arizona's new abortion law

Dash Dobrofsky@DashDobrofsky
A 14 year old Arizona girl was denied a refill of a life-saving prescription drug due to Arizona’s new abortion law. She has debilitating rheumatoid arthritis & osteoporosism -- but the drug methotrexate can also be used to end ectopic pregnancies, so doctors denied her a refill:

"The pharmacist chose to not refill because methotrexate could be used to cause an abortion,” Dr. Power said. “And then the pharmacist would be responsible.”

OMG. I hope someone came to their senses and allow this girls to get the medication she needs. The MAGAt GOP has really OVERSTEPPED the boundaries when their asinine laws are putting innocent lives at risk.

...if you want "pro-life" morality, you have to accept that some innocent people may die because of it. Merely collateral damage.

In this situations, they go through a medical necessity, "physician, prior authorization" process.
I've had to do this several meds.

It's a real pain though..
And it's a real pain that she will have to do this for every refill.
Hope she got at least a 90 day supply.

Although I don't guess the case would go anywhere if it came before the Supremes.

and never had to get prior authorization for methotrexate through my insurance. I did for Enbrel, Humira and Prolia though. That must have just been my insurance though. This is lousy. She’s probably had RA for a while and was taking it before and got MTX with no problem. I have been taking it since 1985. It’s also used for certain cancer treatments.

My friend who had RA never needed prior, mainly because it was so so darn cheap.

65, and I have taken it since 1985. Pharmacy isn’t going to question me I would hope. I have been going to them for many years now. I have had RA since age nine, so basically most of my life. I am in MO. Don’t know if young women who take it are having trouble getting it.

She can order her meds online from an out of state pharmacy. Fuck those AZ pharmies and their 19th century morals.

It wouldn't be any different.

Methotrexate is a common drug. It's an old chemotherapy drug.

I believe the med was prescribed once the doctor was contacted, but still it sucks.
