(43,049 posts)It doesn't look great for Trump because it was reported in the media but honestly it doesn't mean anything at all regarding public opinion. Self-selected crowd size or behavior isn't a reflection of public opinion (no matter how much a certain former president used to stridently insist that it did).
I'd suspect that if people were streaming out before the event was over that it's not much different than his previous events. He says the same things over and over regardless of the occasion and he never meets with any of the crowd after an event.
And back in the 1980's when I took training on how to run political campaigns, one of the techniques we were told to use was to send our people to the opponent's free political events and sit our people in the center.
As the speech got underway, every time the opposing candidate said something controversial or repeated one of his policy positions, a few people were to stand up and make their way over the other seated members of the audience and leave.
It not only makes it look like people aren't enjoying the speech but it encourages the audience members who aren't on your side to get up and leave themselves...or at the very least, consider what it is that the candidate said that'd motivate someone to get up and leave rather than tolerating the rest of the event.
I'd imagine such techniques would be even easier these days when you could just text people to leave on cue rather than depending on them to just the optimal times for themselves.
If it wasn't some sort of MAGA disenchantment with Trump, I'd hope it was an organized effort on our part...because if it was, it could be replicated at every pro-Trump event for the rest of his public career.

(7,332 posts)he was suppose to be endorsing local candidates but instead he started his usual lying rants so folks headed for the door, or at least that's what I gathered from reading it

(32,086 posts)I didn't see this particular rally, but in every other one I have seen, he made it about himself, It's been nothing but the same, old litany of hate, lies and grievances. The only difference now is that he sets it to creepy music. Usually, he blathers on for close to an hour before they start filing out. The fact that he didn't make it more than fifteen minutes before they got sick of him is telling. His support is melting away. May it have coattails when it comes to all of the candidates he endorsed.

(7,914 posts)Repeat viewings haven't changed that, or Trump. His "angry 5-year-old" act gets rewritten a bit but the patter of bluster and whining are the same. The people who have so much invested in his view of the world became addicted to his angry displays and vitriolic rhetoric. It is a fix they crave.

(10,033 posts)He hasnt said anything original or interesting (or true) in decades (his whole life?). And hes now looking like an old man who isnt all together as he rambles, which he tends tondo for an hour or more. Given that many people have an attention span lasting about a nanosecond these days, I would think a political speech longer than 45 minutes would start to be extremely boring.

(15,289 posts)to hear Trump insult everyone they don't like and to chant those familiar responses on cue. It was fun for them, but now I suspect Trump is just going on and on about himself and isn't the "showman" he used to be. Every act gets old eventually. Trump's is likely there.
