as they search for human remains.
A reporter on M$NBComcast said they were told by police that if they leave the dock area they would be escorted off the island.
Sorry DeathSentence truth will out.

(15,899 posts)That really disrupts the cleaning process. The press maybe one or two should be allowed to be there. But its an island a small one at that so the less people the better for the cleanup.

(269,114 posts)after Biden said that. Slowly, slowly they are preparing for the worst. Were it not so the hacks would have been eating him alive.
I am way left of Biden and will never support US foreign policy BUT Biden is one of the most experienced politicians on the planet .with those few words he cripplied any chance of a coverup. The other thing is that he oozes empathy - watch him in Florida tomorrow. In the midst of this tragedy DeathSentence will be obliterated in a classy and subtle manner.

We're unlikely to see the type of casualty figures from the first half of the 20th Century well into the thousands, where hurricanes basically blindsided Florida with little or no warning.
But we are likely seeing a figure in the low hundreds, I'm afraid.

(269,114 posts)Were all hoping for low hundreds. That would be way better than it seemed.
All we know is that he used the word substantial and said possibly the deadliest hurricane ever in Florida.

So a death toll in the low hundreds is a very bad thing that nobody "hopes for."
We're very unlikely to see thousands like in the old days, though.

(65,458 posts)This could be the deadliest hurricane in Florida's history. The numbers are still unclear, but we're hearing early reports of what may be substantial loss of life," Biden said from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) headquarters.

(19 posts)Governor DeSantis tells people Hurricane Ian was a once in a 500 year event. That's not true. He's got people thinking they can rebuild because there won't be another deadly hurricane for 500 years. No scientifically-based person would believe that.
He's saying the bridge to Sanibel island will be rebuilt in a matter of weeks, "Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Monday that it is important to get the crews there now and not wait for the bridge to be rebuilt, which could take weeks." Those poor people in Florida have been through enough. Don't make it worse by filling them with false expectations.

(28,487 posts)Silly me, stuck in the 20th Century. Of course they're using drones, which are cheaper than helicopters and don't need FAA airspace clearance.
