As if the hundreds of male survivors in the sex abuse case against the Ohio State University werent up against enough, attorneys for the billion dollar institution filed a brief this week stating that seven major Midwest universities have coalesced behind the university in its ongoing effort to halt the case from ever being tried in a court of law.
On October 3, just one week after Ohio State attorneys submitted an en banc reviewa rare legal practice that some survivors believe was an attempt by the institution to thwart their Title IX lawsuitsthey filed a brief noting that seven Midwest universities are standing in solidarity with Ohio State. The institutions include: Bowling Green State University, Cleveland State University, Eastern Michigan University, Michigan State University, Oakland University, Purdue University, and finally, Ohio States rival, the University of Michigan. Notably, in the last three years, two of those universitiesUniversity of Michigan and Michigan Statehave both made national headlines for their own public reckonings with institutional sex abuse of student athletes.
The night after the filing, Steven Snyder-Hill, the lead plaintiff in the suit and one of the most outspoken survivors of former university physician Richard Strauss sexual abuse, sent it to a private Facebook group of fellow survivors. Rocky Ratliff, an attorney representing one of the other two groups of Strauss survivors and a survivor himself, told Jezebel he was shocked by the filing. I had to get up at 11:15 at night and go to my office to see the filing for myself because I was like, Hes got to be mistaken.
What does it say that two prominent Midwest universitiesBig 10 competitors, at thatknown for their own sex abuse scandals have come to Ohio States defense?
To me, it says these universities, Michigan State, University of Michigan, and Ohio State have learned nothing, Ratliff said. They are spitting in the face of survivors. You have an institution that allowed Larry Nassar and an institution that allowed Robert Anderson, backing the institution that allowed Richard Strauss. Quite honestly, if youd like to invite that Boy Scouts of America and the Catholic Church, were really having a party.

Greed, wealth and power are just not enough. You have to want to be evil too.

(17,332 posts)always blasting colleges as being Liberal, this sounds more like conservatives are running those schools.
With all their Liberal College bashing they'll probably start bragging about them on air.

... and scared that the shit is finally hitting the fan.
Just as the ugly scandal played out at Penn State (the Jerry Sandusky - Joe Paterno mess) it's now moving on to sports programs in other states. Ohio State had plenty of notice to clean up its mess before it became a national embarrassment. But they did zilch except try to sweep it under a rug.
What exactly are these universities trying to hush up?

(16,529 posts)My first thought was "Why would all those other schools do this unless they have some skeletons in their own closets that they don't want escaping?"
When I realized 3 of them were MSU, UM, and OSU, that clenched it. They're ALL hiding shit!

(9,145 posts)Yet we trash teachers, education as "elitist", and now we find bottom feeders running some schools.
This adds more damage to the "information age".
