(102,283 posts)and I found his new appreciation for all that surrounds him on earth and in nature quite touching. He's not wrong about some of what he was saying about trees' ability to chemically communicate, btw (research has been dramatic in the past decades) and those terrified of being accused of anthropomorphizing animals (though most that are so concerned can't even spell it ) are intensely ignorant of the complexity of interactions between individual animals, their ability to communicate, and the previously unrecognized higher intelligence.
So, no, I don't agree with your cynicism, nor completely with your "woo" accusations.
I rather enjoyed the segment

(10,434 posts)I hadn't been paying much attention to the TV this morning, didn't know he was going to be on. JUst happened to walk in from running with my dog as it started.
I liked it. Particularly toward the end as the conversation discussed being "that old" and still able to be moved to say WOW.

(29,205 posts)all of his co-stars from the original are dead... at least the ones that would talk to him... as far as I know, he and George Takei are not friends.
He is going through the 5 stages of grief about his death and is approaching acceptance.
He didn't say anything that wasn't true about animals and plants communicating with each other... although assigning some sort of higher order intelligence to communication between trees or fungus is a bit far afield (not that he did that).

(111,098 posts)He talked about thinking like a child and seeing the awe and surprise all around us. We should try to maintain that perspective. He reminded me a bit of Jimmy Carter.
