The defendant relied on his Hollywood credentials to lure young women for photo shoots where he allegedly sexually assaulted them, LA district attorney George Gascón said at a press conference on Wednesday. Power and influence can corrupt some to hurt others that often leads to a lifetime of trauma for those who are victimised.
The 18 charges against Weinberg relate to a series of sexual assaults that police allege occurred between 2014 and 2019. On Wednesday, prosecutors said dozens of women had come forward since news of Weinbergs arrest in July first broke, when he was charged with more counts of sexual assault, dating back to 2012.
In the indictment, police allege Weinberg singled out women in their 20s and 30s in grocery stores, coffee shops and other public places and would attempt to convince them to participate in a photo shoot. If the women agreed, police said he then allegedly assaulted them during photo shoots organised in his home.

Weinberg was previously investigated several times by police, but the DA's office didn't file charges for lack of evidence, Gascón said.

In 2020, documents filed in Weinberg's divorce and child custody proceedings included allegations by three women that he sexually assaulted them during photo shoots, the Los Angeles Times reported.
One woman alleged that she met Weinberg at a North Hollywood coffee shop in 2014 when she was 22 and he convinced her to come to a photo shoot at his home where she stripped to her underwear. The woman alleged that while taking photos, Weinberg grabbed her, forced to perform oral sex, choked her and then raped her, according to documents cited by the Times.

(3,341 posts)but instead, his desire to abuse had existed already, and the money and position gave him the tools and targets to accomplish it with much less risk.
There's the popular position that power and money are corrupting influences, but I tend to believe that the corruption is, to one degree or another, already there, and the money and excess simply allows us to make the choice to rationalize the abuse we suffer onto others as 'meh, no big deal.'
