Eisenhower would be a Rino Radical Woke Left Leaning Liberal Socialist in today's GOP-

If you’ve never seen this speech. It’s worth it to read te entire speech. He talks about helping people, being kind, things that by today’s GOP are liberal woke ideas

SNIP——-

Look at your country. Here is a country of which we are proud, as you are proud of Dartmouth and all about you, and the families to which you belong. But this country is a long way from perfection--a long way. We have the disgrace of racial discrimination, or we have prejudice against people because of their religion. We have crime on the docks. We have not had the courage to uproot these things, although we know they are wrong. And we with our standards, the standards given us at places like Dartmouth, we know they are wrong.

Now, that courage is not going to be satisfied--your sense of satisfaction is not going to be satisfied, if you haven't the courage to look at these things and do your best to help correct them, because that is the contribution you shall make to this beloved country in your time. Each of us, as he passes along, should strive to add something.

It is not enough merely to say I love America, and to salute the flag and take off your hat as it goes by, and to help sing the Star Spangled Banner. Wonderful! We love to do them, and our hearts swell with pride, because those who went before you worked to give to us today, standing here, this pride. And this is a pride in an institution that we think has brought great happiness, and we know has brought great contentment and freedom of soul to many people. But it is not yet done. You must add to it.

Don't join the book burners. Don't think you are going to conceal faults by concealing evidence that they ever existed. Don't be afraid to go in your library and read every book, as long as that document does not offend our own ideas of decency. That should be the only censorship.

1. Not to mention his impeccable record of military service.

Military heroes running for office these days will get swift-boated if they don't toe the GOP line. Meanwhile, 400lbs mama's boys who couldn't waddle 100 yards without getting winded dress up in tactical gear and sport assault rifles and get praised as "patriots".

It shows how far we have drifted, especially the pachyderms who no longer say only idiots oppose unions!

4. Add that Ike was also a proud PROGRESSIVE conservative.

Progressivism is belief in the right of the citizenry to use their government to solve problems and create advances that individuals and private organizations can't.

Like creating a crash-proof nationwide retirement fund (i.e., Social Security).

Back in Ike's days many moderate conservatives supported progressivism in government, both social and economic. Before (and why!) anti-government extremism was turned into an anti-government religion and both traditional conservatism and progressivism were purged from the GOP.

“I have just one purpose … and that is to build up a strong progressive Republican Party in this country. If the right-wing wants a fight, they are going to get it … before I end up, either this Republican Party will reflect progressivism or I won’t be with them anymore.” ~ Ike

5. Perhaps, but Eisenhower issued Executive Order 10450 barring homosexuals from the federal government

So not quite as "woke" as portrayed in that article. Of course cultural and social norms were just in the process of significant change near the end of his life.

The link is to the speech in it’s entirety. It’s not an article. Can you imagine a Republican making that exact same speech today? They’d be kicked out of the party and called all the names I put in the title.

6. Dwight "Ike" Eisenhower was the real deal. He died in 1969; the GOP started rotting & dying w Nixon

I don’t think Ike liked his Vice President — he doubtless knew something the rest of us only found out later.

So here we are in another century, with a GOP that is rotten to the core by its own choice.

Yet I have never forgotten that it was President Eisenhower (R) that decided “all deliberate speed” was not going fast enough and sent in troops to desegregate public schools. I was a little kid, but watched that on b/w tv.

Thank you for this reminder: there was an honorable man.

Between 1930 and 1965 where the Progressives bolted from the Republican Party and joined with FDR and the Dixiecrats left the Democrats and joined the Republicans.

In today's GOP every Republican president except for Trump would fall into that description - even Reagan. Also, Barry Goldwater would be considered a screaming liberal and when he was still around he was considered the high-water mark for right-wing lunacy.

Nixon would have remained as a rep from a district in CA. Ike was very popular and probably would have won in 52 either way.

that claim white childrens’ feelings are hurt when they read history. A president that says you can criticize your country? Tells you that being a patriot and good citizen is more than wrapping yourself in the flag. Yep, they would ban a Republican president
