Recently evicted suspect arrested 3 hours after fatal shooting, 120 miles from university scene

University of Arizona Prof. Thomas Meixner was shot and killed Wednesday by a former student, officials and sources said. Three hours later, the suspect — who was evicted last week — was arrested outside Gila Bend, about 120 miles away.

Meixner, 52, was head of the UA's Department of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences and noted for his work on the water quality of desert rivers.

“Law enforcement authorities have apprehended a suspect in the shooting that occurred today on the University of Arizona main campus,” the University of Arizona wrote in a statement.

“Arizona Department of Public Safety officers apprehended Murad Dervish after a traffic stop near Gila Bend, Arizona, at 5:10 p.m.” The suspect’s full name is Murad Can Dervish, 46. He has previous addresses in Pennsylvania and California.

I swear, they draw straws to decide which one will make a move to sink your dissertation at the last minute.

(I know this was an eviction case, btw. My assertion stands, however.)
