"Dark Andrew" Weissmann surfaces in re DoJ investigation

The problem with the DOJ staffing on the MAL case (at least what is visible) is the lead attorney is trained to think of DOJ’s role as negotiating compliance with the law after the person is discovered to be in violation vs indicting the person to promote compliance with the law.

The same group did no criminal investigation into Manafort’s FARA violations for 8 months, but negotiated with his counsel for 8 months to have him file FARA disclosure forms after years of violating that law.

They interviewed no witnesses. Issued no GJ subpoenas. They got no Manafort docs. They did GIVE Manafort docs when he falsely claimed to DOJ he had no docs to refresh his recollection of the facts, which they did not verify.

So that’s why I’m super concerned about the staffing here. Worried it’s too much of a regulator’s mindset. Not what is needed IMHO.

(By the way, not in any way saying they are not honest and good people, to be clear)

Much more at the tweet thread below, including many comments from other frustrated people.

When they overturned the Arthur Andersen convictions and blamed Weissmann for corrupting the Jury Pool?

One of the top things I hate about Trump is that we now welcome with open arms skunks like Weissman, Liz Cheney and Steve Schmidt who a few years ago we, as progressives had a distinct dislike of them JUST because they're now anti-Trumpers.

Andrew Weissman is a "Conviction Uber Alles" prosecutor and has a history of running right to the edge of illegality and I wouldn't be surprised if he's covered up police misconduct like planted evidence and fake testimony just to get the conviction.

While I'm ranting... I also fucking HATE how we've gone from being liberals, true progressives like the pony tailed defense lawyers railing against the DoJ and FBI and prosecutorial abuses to being "gung ho" about lock him up, lock her up, lock them all up"...

True progressives will NEVER trust the American Justice system and how it's FREQUENTLY weaponized... as it has been since forever.

...another day, another attack on the Biden DOJ from Weissman because of how little he actually knows about the details of the DOJ investigation.
