Putin and his henchmen in the process?
He has been ordering war crimes since the start of this war. Bombing schools etc. is supposed to be off limits yet he just does what he want - kind of like tfg in this country.
But I wonder what would happen if Red Square was obliterated and Putin was dead? Would some other sadistic creep just step up to take his place? Or would they just pull out of Ukraine and the war would be over and Russia would start to rebuild but with a democratically elected head of state?
I'm only asking since he has been talking about using nuclear weapons now. Something that is too horrifying to think of.

(5,502 posts)Because what if you don't kill Putin? It's possible he comes out the other side more popular than ever. But if you do kill him, it may depend on who manages to live as to who takes on the leadership role.
I think in general we don't assasinate world leaders because there are too many negative variables that can play out.
I do think the game changes and riskier options will be considered if Putin uses a nuclear weapon.

That's not something any country would just shrug off. Its a apples to oranges comparison since Putin is far far worse than Trump was, but if a country like Iran attacked DC and killed trump while he was still President, then the we would absolutely be bombing Tehran soon after. Few things unite a country faster than an attack from the outside. Killing putin would likely get the Russian people to rally behind whoever takes charge after and they would be demanding blood for it.

(101,385 posts)Yes, it is the kind of crime Putin is committing himself, but international law does not say "the other side killed 5,000 illegally, so you can go ahead and kill 5,000 civilians yourself in the hope of getting the guy at the top".

And if you want to assassinate him, get in line. I suspect there's a lot of Russians wanting to do the same.

Setting off a bomb in Red Square is an unacceptable escalation.
