IMHO, having Herschel Walker show up at the debate will be the most devastating attendee for to Herschel Walker.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines baby-daddy as the father of a womans child, who is not her husband or (in most cases) her current or exclusive partner. The baby-mama entry follows the same template with the genders reversed. But some gossip writers have been adopting the first part of the definition and ignoring the second. Salon recently called Tom Cruise Katie Holmes baby-daddy, even though the couple is engaged. And Gawker refers to Keven Federline as Britney Spears baby-daddy, even though the couple has been married for more than a year. Such usages would be unlikely in Jamaica, where baby-daddy has its roots. The OED lists baby-daddy and baby-mama as colloquial, chiefly African-American variants of the Jamaican terms baby-father and baby-mother; its first citation for baby-mother hails from the Kingston Daily Gleaner in 1966. The terms probably arose in Jamaican Creolewhere they would have been pronounced biebifaada and biebimadabefore taking hold in standard Jamaican English.
On the island, your baby-mother or baby-father is typically someone with whom you are no longer romantically involved. If you called your husband your baby-father, he might be insultedthe term suggests biological fatherhood in the absence of any real parenting. The linguistics professor Peter L. Patrick, who studies Jamaican Creole, said the terms definitely imply there is not a marriagenot even a common-law marriagebut rather that the child is an outside child. The terms soon landed in the lyrics of reggae and dancehall songs, which may be how they made their way to the United States. In 1981, a Jamaican musician named Linval Thompson wrote and recorded a song called Baby Mother that entreats men not to be rough with pregnant womenMind how youre pushing/ when you push on your baby motherbecause an unborn child might be a king or queen maybe a movie star. Thompson followed up with Baby Father, a major hit that advised men to take responsibility for their kids. The opening line: Baby father, dont run. Dont hide.
By the mid to late 90s, the terms baby-daddy and baby-mama were appearing regularly in American hip-hop and R&B songs, and the words were consistently used to refer to an ex. In a 1997 song by B-Rock & the Bizz *, a girl placates her jealous boyfriend: That aint nobody/ thats just my baby-daddy. In a song by Bass Patrol, a beleaguered boyfriend chants, I dont know/ and I cant see/ why your baby daddy got beef with me. But it was the rapper Queen Pen who most succinctly captured the difficulties inherent in the relationship, in a song called Baby Daddy: I shouldnt a f-cked him.
Baby-mama hit the big time in 2000, in the OutKast chart-topper Ms. Jackson. The songwhich, as Andre 3000 put it, went out to all the baby mamas mamasdetails the singers efforts to convince his ex-girlfriends mom that hes serious about being a good dad, and it soon had Americans black and white singing along with the catchy chorus: Im sorry Ms. Jackson/ but I am for real! OutKast even secured the terms place in the New York Times: It appeared outside of quotation marks for the first time in a 2003 profile of the band that calls Ms. Jackson a conflicted ode to baby-mamas. (The line is cited in the current edition of the OED.)

(115,870 posts)I can't imagine that Warnock, a clergyman, would agree to such a cruel stunt. The woman who got the abortion has specifically asked not to be identified for the protection of her child.

(13,421 posts)Warnock has steered clear of any discussion of Walker's issues. I have to respect that. There is very much a stereotype of the black absentee father, promiscuity, anger, drug use or any negative personal behavior you want attributed to black men--especially in the south. What a lot of people don't realize about this in the context of Walker and this Senate race, is that the Georgia GOP really doesn't CARE that Walker has the issues he does because that's how they see ALL black men. This current set of issues with Walker will not change too many minds there because it just affirms what they believe already. Warnock is absolutely a threat because he represents an alternative to the stereotypical black male image. Warnock empowers black voters to think their vote might matter. That feeling of futility is deeply rooted and the GOP depends on it.
Anybody that sees Walker's campaign as much more than a racist play to take out that scary smart black minister probably hasn't thought it through. Warnock is trying to elevate things, and offering commentary on Walker's issues only undermines things.

(30,541 posts)to humiliate Hillary in such a low sleazy way, classy NOT! Let Walker expose himself, the women and abortions aren't the problem IMO. The biggest problem with Walker is he's just plain STUPID. Walker outs himself every time he opens his mouth and shows his lack of intelligence and good sense.

(38,583 posts)He's a minister. He needs to behave himself and not gloat on Walker's past mistakes and present misfortunes.
He could, however, invite Walker to come to church for real redemption, most notably for his lies about the whole thing.

(10,162 posts)I think Warnock is above stunts like this. Now, if Walker brings up the subject Warnock has every right to bring up his hypocrisy. But this is the kind of tasteless thing Trump and his ilk would pull.

Woke is the new politically correct, social justice warrior and so on. You'll see someone accused of being right-wing because they've discussed Democrats being too woke -- yeah, sure, James Carville and Al Franken are notorious wing nuts. Using a word right-wingers have changed the meaning of doesn't automatically turn you into them. Amazing to see anyone accused of racism for posting a tweet by a black person using the words baby mamma. Like the time Shontel Brown supporters were called racists for hating strong women of color because they didn't support Nina Turner. That was a good one, very stupid.
