Mexico to file second lawsuit against gun dealers in the US.
Mexico filed a $10 billion lawsuit against several major gun makers in the US alleging their marketing contributed to the deaths of Mexican citizens by trafficking guns across the border. A federal Judge dismissed the suit citing the PLCAA that provides gun makers with immunity to legal action in almost all cases. Mexico plans to appeal the ruling AND will launch a second civil suit against gun sellers along the border alleging they take part in straw purchases to gun traffickers shipping guns across the border.
Mexico has traced 60% of guns from the US to 10 counties along the border. This is similar to Chicago's situation in that something like 60% of recovered guns are traced to a handful of gun stores in neighboring states.
Meanwhile in Domestic Gundom the ATF is getting serious about enforcing gun laws against gun dealers. Last year the ATF took the licenses of 1.3% of FFL holders they inspected. That's a larger number than appears at first glance because there are only enough agents to inspect a small portion of gun dealers annually (there are more gun dealers than McDonalds and Starbucks combined). In the past the practice was to issue a letter of reprimand to the dealer. Several dealers have enough letters to wall paper their store!
That 1.3% is three times the number in 2020.
Thank ya' Biden!
