Cuts through the myth and caricature that has too often defined Giuliani. . . . As a former television reporter for NY1, Kirtzman knows the man better than the pundits who have often scratched their heads about the Giuliani they thought they knew. . . . If Giulianis story is a tragedy, Kirtzman argues that its self-inflicted through a combination of alcohol, sanctimony and a bottomless need for attention. -- Chris Megerian ― Los Angeles Times
"Masterful and engrossing. . . . Capture[s] what made the man tick and what led to his fall from grace. Kirtzmans critique is leavened with bittersweet impressions and references to Giulianis accomplishments. -- Lloyd Green ― The Guardian
"The same 'fanatical sense of righteousness' that propelled Rudy Giulianis rise set him on the road to ruin, according to this richly detailed biography. . . . A comprehensive and alarming portrait of Giulianis downfall." ― Publishers Weekly

About the Author
Andrew Kirtzman has covered Rudy Giuliani for three decades as a political reporter for print and television. He began as a City Hall reporter and then wrote what is considered a definitive book about Giulianis mayoralty. He was with Giuliani on the morning of September 11th, and chronicled their experience together. He has covered more than a dozen national political campaigns, and hosted two of New Yorks most widely watched political shows, winning multiple Emmy Awards. He has written for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Republic, and other publications, and authored a book about the Bernie Madoff scandal. He appears regularly on CNN and MSNBC to discuss politics and government.

(115,761 posts)Makes you wonder what happened to him such that his utter assholishness overtook any basic common sense or ability to think straight. He was an egomaniac from the time he was US Attorney for SDNY, got worse when he was mayor of NYC, then he tried to run for president and got nowhere. Maybe that's when he decided to attach himself to TFG, a kindred spirit. But even so, he also now seems truly insane. Alcoholism? Senility?

(46,133 posts)It was written over the period of 9/11/01 and last year by a reporter for New York One, who followed Giuliani everywhere without restriction.
A lot of us in the City watched the unraveling of Giuliani from the time he was a federal prosecutor (making Michael Milken get frog-marched in front of cameras without his toupe) to 9/11 to grabbing Bernie Kerik's arm and exclaiming "Thank God George Bush is President!" to trying to dry out at Mar-A-Lago with Trump.
Giuliani used to consume a lot of AM radio back in the 90s between Lynn Samuels (who regularly called him "vile" and "despicable" ) and Bill Mazer on WEVD (who had a soft spot for RG b/c the mayor gave an impassioned eulogy for Mazer's late wife).

(16,808 posts)so what does he do?
he bets it all on trump.
If trump wins he will be sitting pretty.
but trump lost and suddenly the alimony that seemed workable a few years back is now harder and harder.
don't get me wrong, i hope he dies penniless in prison
but the fall has been dramatic.
Will he be in line for a new gravy train with a 2024 work up or is he just a symbol of a past failure.....
