And it's had me thinking. We had a special congressional election in NY in Aug and when I went to the polling place I was shocked to see a local venom spewing rightwingnut sitting at the table checking people's names. Then after I filled my ballot card I walk up to the ballot box to put it in the slot and his wife is standing guard at the box??? Shouldn't the people at polling centers be vetted or shouldn't they have an equal number of Dems and Repubes at each polling place? These people believe the 2020 election was stolen! What really keeps them from trying to right their delusional thinking and doing something illegal.

3. the answer is, that we need to publicize the number of the supervisor of elections

so that people who see the poll watchers doing anything wrong, can call it in. The newspapers should also post a number for voters to call in if they see improprieties at the polls, in case the supervisor of elections is a partisan.

4. Don't know about now, but I worked polls in west New York State a while back.

Pre-Obama.

Polling places were 1/2 (D), 1/2 (R). Not sure how precinct chair was chosen.

We were authorized to check IDs if we suspected anything amiss, and that meant "for any reason."

There was no campaigning or political speech allowed. When a fellow poll worker tried to talk politics, he was shut down sharply.

We kept two voter lists. The official one and two lists on a yellow pad. One was (R), the other (D), and every few hours a party person would come and pick up the list of voters, hand them off to phone banks. That way they weren't calling people who'd voted already.
