Texas Gov. Greg Abbott: No Pardons For Marijuana Convictions

After President Joe Biden asked governors to consider pardons for low-level marijuana offenses, Abbott said that won't happen in Texas.

Source:Huff Post

Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said he won’t consider pardons for low-level marijuana offenders after President Joe Biden called on governors across the country to consider pardons.

“Texas is not in the habit of taking criminal justice advice from the leader of the defund police party and someone who has overseen a criminal justice system run amuck with cashless bail and a revolving door for violent criminals,” Abbott spokesperson Renae Eze said in a statement Thursday.

Someone should ask the republican governor of TX if the state of South Dakota can have legalized pot, for both medical and recreational reasons, then why in the hell not pardon these people convicted of low-level pot offenses? South Dakota is a republican state too.

He's grandstanding literally on the bodies of his victims in TX.

You got this pile of stuff.... let's call it "meanness", and you got this other pile of stuff.... let's call it "stupid". These piles are essential for the current "conservative" Republican party machine to exist.

These precious substances are the "special sauce" which keeps their base coming to the polls (kinda like moths to a porch light), every time the polls are open. Sometimes, they even make up their own polls and create their own elections with their very own results, too. Very creative and a bit hyperactive as well, this "base".

When the "mean" base gets antsy, they're fed from the "stupid" pile. That keeps them busy for a while, chewing and mulling. Conversely, when the "stupid" base gets antsy, they're fed from the "mean" pile. They too are thus occupied and don't make trouble for the machine. So long as these aspects are well fed, the machine and "conservatism" are golden.

Meanwhile everyone else is scratching their head trying to figure if what they're seeing is simply stupid cruelty or horribly cruel stupidity. Non-"conservatives" preoccupied with the quandary which this phenomenon presents are sort of like a cat playing with a mouse except cats won't tolerate half-dead mice taking over their government.

I read that's what the for-profit private prison system charged to house/detain an inmate for a year & that was several years ago.

Also, republicans, & the zealots in particular, are very punitive. They love locking up those they disagree with or dislike.

"It's all been ground down to molasses", circa early 1900's. A song that served as a euphemism for notorious Texas prison farms where inmates were literally being worked to death. Many prisoners received excessive sentences for minor offenses, or for "crimes" such as vagrancy. Fast forward to 2022. Has much changed in Texas under the current governor?

https://www.muckrock.com/news/archives/2015/jun/11/texas-private-prison-map/

Q: Which state is host to the most big name for-profit prisons?
A: Texas. Of course, it’s Texas.

The state that emblazoned it’s “Everything’s Bigger In…” theme on the collective consciousness has been at work putting its official motto (“Friendship”) to use when it comes to the big three private prisons operators — Corrections Corporation of America, GEO Group, and Management and Training Corporation.

Texas is currently home to thirty-five of their facilities, doubling the number in the next closest contender, California. The happy trio provides services to customers local, state, and federal. In particular, the U.S. government has made use of GEO and CCA immigrant detention centers in the southern tip, near the Mexican border, and along the strip of Interstate 35 from Laredo to Austin. The State of Texas itself has primarily turned to MTC for housing prisoners from the Department of Criminal Justice.

Big Corps & bag man Abbott try to convince women and other imiserated Texans of how free they are from so-called 'soft on crime' Democrats.

If/When O'Rourke wins and their mental chains removed, Republicans there won't know what to do or how to think while the corporate scream machine revs up anti-Beto messaging on local TX radio & tv networks. Today they drove to Austin to go to a full day concert of lots of bands. She took her high school son with her.

I think you stay sane by living your life and hanging with good people. Near the river walk area there is a free yoga outdoors on the weekends her and hubby do that.
