I saw on MSNBC that 299 (likely 300 plus now) Rethug federal candidates so far have refused to commit to accepting a defeat.

Blacks, women, and Veteran's that went to Vietnam without a right to vote, remember well the fight for that right. We MUST focus that fear. It could all be gone very soon.

(2,809 posts)I don't even know how feasible getting my ballot in this year will be, presently being between gigs and a new, screwed up policy by DeJoy's fukked up U.S.P.S.!
For the better part of 30 years, in between travel gigs, I could obtain a post office box with the physical location designation of my remote property. No longer accepted.
Now to qualify for a P.O. box, a 911 address must be provided. Tax office won't issue the property owner that information until a building permit has been issued. Over $2000 fee.
Full-time roadsters are also getting screwed out of their democratic voice via more new regulations.
Gee, the party who sings the "de-regulaton song" because it will restrict freedoms. Oh, that's right, it's only massive corporations freedom to pollute.
If I don't get work in time to re-register, it may become impossible for me to get my double-forwarded ballot in time to submit. It's happened before, before DeJoy slowed down service. I got my ballot that occasion, on November 9th.
I have absolutely no notion what other purpose this new policy serves except disenfranchisement.

(6,874 posts)(Assuming you know.) If it were Colorado, I'd bet that Jena Griswold's office (she's the Secretary of State) would be more than willing to work with you. But it probably isn't.
Sadly, there is no single way to vote that doesn't disenfranchise someone. Making Election Day a holiday is popular, but it would disenfranchise voters who work low-wage hourly jobs and depend on opportunities for overtime or holiday pay just to feed themselves and their families. So we definitely need different ways to vote for different people.

(1,766 posts)It should have been paid the year immediately after 911 servicing went into effect. If it hasn't been paid, that's on the property owner. Tell him to find a way to pay the bill. The county might be amenable to a payment plan. If not, the property owner needs to pretend to have one by setting aside X amount every month to save up to get it paid.
As it is, check any utility or property tax bills that show any line items that mention 911 service charges. If you are paying for that through either of those, and you aren't being granted a 911 address, you may be able to sue the county (or whatever agency) for having to pay for a service but not being able to use it. I mean, what happens if you DO need 911 service out there, and have no 911 address to give them for your location? Will you get delayed service or none at all?
You may need to consult an attorney about your options.
Good luck.

(2,809 posts)Most of the time, I'll get work before I have barely time to ready myself to go. I never know where until contract is signed. I'm the property owner. 911 addressing only went into effect a few years back. I was on a gig that lasted nearly 5 years when I got the notice. It seems odd to me they don't just issue the information to those "grandfathered in" to property ownership. It's just a way they can hoard more revenue (Arizona)
This time caught me in a bad position to deal with this. Having had 2 expensive cancer surgeries this last year I have only the funds to scrape by until either new work or initial Social Security payment arrives.
This remote property is part of a retirement plan. I have neither the means nor ability to do much else with it until I fully retire.
This is the first time off I've had to come here in 2 years. I got sideswiped with this new regulatory information that's changed how I go about my mail.
There isn't any 911 fee on my property tax bill, nor that address.
It does upset me being denied emergency location services.

(8,914 posts)because if they lose, that must mean that someone else fixed it better.
Their logic is, if we (R)'s are doing it, then they (D)'s must be doing it as well, so we won't accept they we were out voted, it has to be fixed.
