DeSantis pushes 'national regime media' theory following storm

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/desantis-pushes-national-regime-media-theory-storm-rcna50891?cid=sm_npd_ms_tw_ma

The governor spoke to an outlet called Florida’s Voice, which describes itself as “a patriotic news network,” and shared some thoughts about his impressions of major news outlets.

“Well, look, I think part of it quite frankly, you know, you have national regime media that they wanted to see Tampa [get hit by Hurricane Ian] because they thought that that’d be worse for Florida,” DeSantis said. “That’s how these people think. I mean, they don’t care about the people of this state; they don’t care about the people of this community. They want to use storms and destruction from storms as a way to advance their agenda.

“And they don’t care what destruction’s in their wake; they don’t care about the lives here. If they can use it to pursue their political agenda, they will do it.”

He didn’t appear to be kidding. The governor honestly seemed to believe that journalists wanted to see a massive hurricane strike one of Florida’s largest cities because of their deep hatred for the state. Media professionals, in DeSantis’ mind, have an “agenda,” and storm devastation would help those rascally journalists advance their cause......

It’s also worth dwelling on “national regime media.” In candor, I haven’t the foggiest idea what the phrase means, though Media Matters’ Matt Gertz noted that the Republican apparently uses the phrase because, as DeSantis sees it, independent news organizations at the national level are aligned with the “regime” — as in, the Biden administration.

Of course, the idea that journalists are secretly in league with the executive branch is tiresome, conspiratorial nonsense, and just as importantly, in this country we tend not to use the word “regime” to refer to the democratically elected government of the United States.

He describes himself brilliantly.

It didn't take long for him to blame the hurricane on Democrats and journalists. Like Trump, DeSantis expects the press to shill for for him or they're not real journalists. Truth-tellers need not apply.

I must confess. He's got us dead to rights. Using the amazing power of nuclear bombs, we create and launch hurricanes at Florida at every opportunity. We're usually off for the non-hurricane season, though some of our younger members like to extend into the winter a bit. I mean who doesn't love hurricane parties? Especially one which wraps neatly into Christmas.

What really makes our day is the way meteorologists try to predict the point of landfall. They'll show it hitting Panama City and chatter on about their "science" and we'll watch all the people pick up and evacuate, screwing up the traffic all along the Gulf coast. Then, at the last moment, like the hand of god or fate (the feelings of power are delicious),we'll turn that sucker right into Cedar Key. We always try to hit Cedar Key whenever possible. It's just a little place, stubborn too. Tampa, we don't do Tampa. I can't say why but, like Jacksonville, they appreciate and respect the powers of the NOAAAFC. Bob's your uncle. Capiche?

BTW, if you're in Kansas next spring, a word to the wise. We found a few F-2 tornados which had fallen off a truck. Nothing big, just enough to make a point, eh Topeka? It's all on the up and up. Cleared at the highest levels of the national regime media, all the way up to Brandon (if you catch my meaning). Oh, and keep this to yourself, okay? Nice website you got here, would be a shame if a hailstorm were to come out a nowhere.

stunts and relentless demagoguery. This time they're asking hard questions about his hurricane response, so thin-skinned Governor Ron's angry.

These conspiracy theories all have their roots in centuries-old antisemitic canards.

They have been polished just a bit for the age of social media, but they are basically the same and will end up having the same results.

The right wing can never take responsibility for their own failures, instead blaming some unpopular minority group
