This is the message that Fox News is sending to its viewers

A potential fall COVID surge is coming, and Fox News is trying to sicken and kill its viewers.
Fox has done this before, and the point is to shift the blame for COVID deaths from Trump to President Biden. Fox News is so cynical and politically motivated that they would risk the lives of their older viewers for the larger political goal of damaging Biden and the Democrats while helping Trump and the Republicans.
It doesnt have to be this way, but no other form of media has done more to politicize the pandemic than Fox News.

(7,096 posts)The U.S. still has 400+ Covid deaths a day, but, hey, that's no biggee compared to the tremendous hardship of spending 20 minutes at Walgreen's or CVS, I guess.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/covid-19-bivalent-booster-shots-slower-start-than-previous-flu-vaccine-campaigns/As of Thursday, federal data tallies more than 11.5 million doses of the new bivalent COVID-19 vaccine boosters from Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech in arms across the country.
That represents around 5.5% of the 209 million Americans who were eligible for the updated boosters when they were greenlighted a month ago.
. . . All vaccinated Americans age 12 and older are recommended by the CDC to get the bivalent boosters, at least two months after their last shot. The CDC says people who were recently infected can wait three months after they tested positive before getting the shot.
. . . Federal health officials had previously cited modeling from the Commonwealth Fund suggesting 101,858 COVID-19 deaths could be averted this winter, if updated boosters reached levels similar to the annual flu shot.

In Europe, the 7 day moving average of new cases are up 67% in the past 30 days
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/world/covid-cases.html
France, Germany, and Italy, just to pick some of the larger population European countries, have several times the new case rates of the U.S., and all 3 are strongly rising.
OK, I left out the U.K. -- its rate is about the same as the U.S., but their's is rising (the U.S. is still falling)

(13,180 posts)I've had all five shots, personally, but I just see it as not wanting to be a burden to others (my family and medical workers mainly). I also don't feel like letting the virus "use me." So, there's an element of "Go F yourself, COVID warship."
The fear of the "sickness" and risk of death is secondary to me. The fear of causing someone else's death is much higher in priority, but much of that risk is beyond my control. We don't live forever. And we constantly take risks with our lives and those of others.
The vaccine should be seen as just something to get out of the way, and something that shows courage rather than fear. That would increase its uptake imo.

(2,120 posts)I had my normal visit about two weeks ago. When I asked about the booster shot he said he wasn't going to get one and didn't recommend it since I am otherwise healthy. (Well, healthy for a 74 year old.)
The same with the flu shot. I have never had a flu shot. He said that it was probably OK. There are so many variants that the current flu shot doesn't really provide much protection. He doesn't get one. He said there are people that just feel safer after getting the shot and he recommends they do so. At this point it is more psychological than medical.

(62,530 posts)this will be a bad winter.
I read a quick article recently about the booster, the spread and the potential of cases.
if 44% of the population isn't boosted by later this month, it's expected that we will see up to 1200 new cases per day.
this could get bad quck.
I'll see if I can locate the article, I read it last week.
