(5,167 posts)Her biographer says that gave her the organizational skills to manage the members of Congress.
I noticed that her daughter Alexandria filmed the footage shown by CNN. How lucky she was with her mother on that fateful day, recording all that occurred minute by minute.

(83,785 posts)Why else would he have said he would stand in for Pence if he happened not to be there that day. Makes you wonder about Grassley's role in all this. Hmmm,
I Goggled it and got Leahy's name.
I also googled to find out who was 4th. I read a book, many decades ago The Man.
The time is 1964. The place is the Cabinet Room of the White House. An unexpected accident and the law of succession have just made Douglass Dilman the first black President of the United States.
This is the theme of what was surely one of the most provocative novels of the 1960s. It takes the reader into the storm center of the presidency, where Dilman, until now an almost unknown senator, must bear the weight of three burdens: his office, his race, and his private life.
From beginning to end, The Man is a novel of swift and tremendous drama, as President Dilman attempts to uphold his oath in the face of international crises, domestic dissension, violence, scandal, and ferocious hostility. Push comes to shove in a breathtaking climax, played out in the full glare of publicity, when the Senate of the United States meets for the first time in one hundred years to impeach the President. (

(6,544 posts)HOwever, Trump didn't "refuse to act to save lives", he acted intentionally to threaten those lives. We, as a country and a party, really need to stop using language as if he was some senile old dude who wasn't living up to his role as President. He was the chief instigator of a coup attempt.

(205,452 posts)You know that I sometimes post clever Twitter replies on a Twitter OP and twice this week I've seen nothing but nasty insults! I tend to block such idiots, but on these Twitter threads it was pretty much everyone! I guess that means current events are getting to them, but it's depressing as hell to realize there are still so many out there.

(102,283 posts)duplicitous. The progressive Dems who have repeatedly derided Pelosi (and tried to unseat her the past several cycles) and again going into the Fall election, look mighty damned foolish for their ageist bigotry and "selective" ignorance.
