Putin and his Saudi pals were counting on freezing the NATO coalition into submission, thus giving Putin free rein to demolish Ukraine in any way possible.

That said, I still hope they conserve as much as possible to break Putin's back. The world has had more than enough from that fascist asshole.

the EU gas reserves are meant to provide a buffer for when the regularly incoming gas is not enough to meet supply. An example to illustrate the problem:

incoming gas = 100 units per day
summer use = 80 units per day
winter use = 110 units per day
Gas reserve capacity = 2000 units

In normal times in the 150 or so days of winter would use all 100 incoming units and 10 from the reserve that you filled during the summer with the 'extra' 20 units. This would still leave 500 or so units in the reserve at the end of summer

If only 60 units are incoming daily then you would need 50 from the reserve per day meaning you would deplete the reserve to 0 in 40 days.

It is not like the reserve being at 100% capacity means they have enough gas for the winter without continued near normal incoming gas.
