in Kansas. I don't know why I find that so cool except that nobody deserved it more than she did. A lot of people in a lot of places pied her. I was just so impressed and excited to know someone who did it because damn if she was not the most obnoxious ass on the planet back then.

I sure knew who she was.
I happened to be doing paste ups for a small publishing company - 2 magazines at that time, or after the pie incidents. One was a gay party, good times mag - celebrities, well known people in the arts, interviewing important gay men, activists.

Anyway they did an Anti Anita Bryant Editorial. I don't remember how soon after it was published - a week, two, or more but they got a Bomb Threat.
So the whole building was evacuated. At least it was decent weather! So after an hour or so after police investigators arrived; nothing was found, and we all went back upstairs.

The good times were that even though it got really hectic - I was there 2 weeks a month as they revved up for the finishing of the issue - I had a fun time during breaks etc.

It was the first job I had where instead of just local people a portion of the staff had moved to NYC, or near by to get into writing, publishing, photo journalism, or working some other more administrative, clerical tasks that at least put them in the Publishing industry in NYC.

20. Still alive, and her gay granddaughter married another woman last year,

unsure if her grandmother would come if they invited her. Bryant's crusade apparently helped break up her marriage 40 years ago, and of course destroyed her career. She's apparently not estranged from family, but they don't share her feelings. No matter what comfort she may take from current events, they are proof she lost the war.
