The Patriotic Case for Jailing Donald Trump

snip//

Maybe I'm naive, and I'm certainly not a lawyer or legal expert, but if someone's stated goal is to overthrow the elected government of the United States and that someone is fomenting violence and threats of violence against those who don't want to overthrow the elected government of the United States, then it would be patriotic to arrest that person. It would be patriotic to hold them without bail until trial so that they can't keep fanning the flames of rebellion, a rebellion that is based on lies that have been called lies by people across the political spectrum and by dozens of courts of law.

This isn't some wild, leftist idea about what Trump deserves. It's based on Trump's words, actions and inactions, and the results of all of that. Even in his petulant letter responding to the January 6 Committee's subpoena of him, Trump holds the insurrectionists blameless, implying that the riot, violence, and lawlessness that day was justified. He said that the committee has "targeted only those who were, as concerned American Citizens, protesting the Fraud itself." How does that not send the message that Trump wanted the violence on that day? He is saying that what the rioters did was right.

snip//

All of this and I haven't even gotten into how the Secret Service and FBI are likely corrupted by Trump and his ground troops in the Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, and other groups, to the point that some agents may very well have been coordinating with the 1/6 rioters. It is damn hard to escape the idea that Trump was hoping that members of Congress who opposed him would be killed. I can't help but think that that's what he wanted when he watched the events unfold for over 3 hours on January 6, 2021, refusing to lift a finger to stop the mayhem. This is a man, after all, who loves going to boxing matches. He enjoys violence.

So I'm not saying that Trump shouldn't have a trial. But I am saying, as I have before, that we hold people who are obviously dangerous in jail without bail as they await trial. This isn't a game. The normal rules have been tossed out the window. If it's all unprecedented, then we need to respond in unprecedented ways.

What could be more dangerous than a former president trying to wreck the country and force it to conform to his fantasy? We know what happens when leaders do that. It never ends well. For the good of the country, for the good of our constitution, that's what needs to happen to Donald Trump. It's what should have happened on January 6.

If there is time to indict Trump and convict him, he will never see the inside of a jail. Any takers?

But at minimum, immediately end his tax payer funded Pension and greatest health care on earth, which not only pays Him $400,000 and year until “he” is dead and rotting, but goes to his “I really don’t care” Ho, until she is dead. And he never contributed a dime to that fund.
Let him live broke, have to shop at the Dollar Store, drink generic Diet Coke and stale, week old chocolate cake tossed out into the back Ally from a janky ass bakery, with fake ass icing. We can make his remaining days miserable and force him to hang with the MAGA’s he would never touch.
Not another dime in his pockets from us.
Maybe he should have not worked for free (haha) for the years he robbed us blind. Make Jared cover his care. Two billion can go a long way.

we'll get an explanation of why someone caught possessing stolen property wasn't arrested.

Why someone who was in possession of highly classified material wasn't arrested.

Anyone else who merely shoplifted, then had the stolen items found in their possession would be arrested on the spot. And that's no comparison to hundreds of thousands of pages of government, classified, secret documents.

trump should be in jail along with many others in which there is ironclad evidence of crimes committed against the United States. Let them bail out and lock them back up if they continue to promote violence and further insurrection. LOCK HIM UP.

It's glaring in fact - what a great way to emphasize his message.

Well thought out, well written piece of journalistic opinion and analysis.

it was him trying to conform to PUTIN's fantasy.

While I was watching the mob was advancing I noticed there were a number of Capitol Police and DC Police moving barricades so the crowd could advance, instead of defending the barricades. At the time, I remember saying "WTF" and realizing then what was being perpetrated and assisted by Cops...........The DC Police and Capitol Police should have reviewed every piece of footage, identified their members that assisted and not only fired them, but prosecuted them for their seditious behavior. (
Fire them before the officers could resign with full retirement benefits)

Hell, Trump openly encouraged his low IQ goons to go hang Pence and Pelosi.

AND Boebert and other Republican House and Senate members that conducted guided tours for Right Wing nut jobs in the days preceding Jan6th. And whoever gave the Proud Boys and Oath keepers maps of where to find the secret hiding places in the capitol the Senators and Members of the house could use.

To be completely honest, if the police had started firing on the insurrectionists as they came thru the windows and doors, they crowd would have turned tail and run........
