Many of my US Twits are baffled by my remarks about British politics

Ignore them

The impending disaster in America is much, much more important

We have politicians who are weak, selfish and
quite unqualified, but your psychopaths are actually a danger to the entire planet

and the authors of the US constitution knew this better than most people alive today. They knew TFG would be along eventually, that he'd be enormously popular with stupid people, and that he'd probably get elected by them

That's why they only gave him four years at a time. They gave us ample opportunity to chuck the nutcases out on their rear ends. It worked with TFG, he's done. It won't work with all of them all of the time, nothing is perfect. However, it gave us a fighting chance.

Plus, I don't think a country that put up with Margaret Thatcher all those years has any room to criticize others.

If it worked, then why weren't the impeachments successful in removing him. It doesn't work if half the people have no sense of honor.

and the combination of all the shit he pulled plus the theft of documents plus the case being laid out that it was a massive conspiracy to install him as dictator has gotten through to enough people that he'll stay out. Yes, there are others waiting for their chance, but they didn't have TV shows and will be much tougher sells for a wary public.

That's why we have elections so often. I think the founders knew the cumbersome impeachment process would be a huge barrier to overcome, government's first object is to protect itself, no matter how bad it is. Presidents damaged by impeachment generally won't be reelected.

Countries with monarchies and dictators find it all terribly unstable. However, it worked.

... prevent it from happening in the first place. That didn't work out too well - in fact, that is what made it possible. TFG lost the popular vote twice. But he only lost the electoral college once.

along with electors. It's absolutely insane to have states that have been depopulated by mechanized agriculture with the same representation as states with large urban, manufacturing, financial, and trade centers.

We've moved on a bit from Jefferson's ideal of a nation of yeoman farmers.

Just like England hat rotten boroughs and pocket boroughs after the Enclosure Laws chased a lot of their rural population off the land and had to go through some serious reform, we've got nearly the same bad system now.

Is that he can really muck up the judiciary in that time, as we’re seeing TFG has done. Since they have lifetime appointments, the effects of his Presidency will be apparent for decades. Just look at Judge Cannon. She’ll be on the bench for 30 years, if not longer.

and I doubt she will last that long. Someone will make her an offer she can't refuse and she'll retire from the judiciary.

The remedy for the lopsided and disgraced USSC is obvious: there are now 13 Federal districts instead of nine. The number of justices needs to be raised accordingly. Wingnuts will howl, but they're always howling about something stupid. I love it when cheating fails to work for them.

So I can't say whether or not it's the equivalent of NewsMax. Hard to imagine any channel being that bad, and if so, giving a liberal airtime.

"'Monty Python's John Cleese a 'Liberal' Despite Right-Leaning Network Gig"

https://www.newsweek.com/john-cleese-liberal-right-leaning-network-show-1750319

Monty Python star John Cleese has called himself an "old-fashioned liberal" while announcing that he's launching a show on a right-leaning British TV network.

The comedian, 82, signed up to host a new show in 2023 on GB News, a network that features a mix of news and opinion and has been widely described as taking on a conservative stance in its programming since its June 2021 launch.
. . .
The Fawlty Towers creator explained how his job came about, saying: "I was approached and I didn't know who they were...And then I met one or two of the [GB News] people concerned and had dinner with them, and I liked them very much. And what they said was: 'People say it's the right-wing channel– it's a free speech channel.'"

On the possibility of having his show on another station, Cleese criticized the BBC during his appearance on one of the broadcasting giant's radio networks. "The BBC have not come to me and said: 'Would you like to have some one-hour shows?' And if they did, I would say: 'Not on your nelly!' Because I wouldn't get five minutes into the first show before I'd been cancelled or censored," he said.

British people who are actually quite nice in other ways but, for some reason, are transphobic.

I find it sad.

I can't imagine what made them that way - Trans people have been known about for literally thousands of years without hurting people or taking over society But whatever it was, at their ages, especially his, they may actually be unable to snap out of it.

Sad.

Oh; that's right. Because John Cleese - while ostensibly funny and loved by millions - supports the conservatives in the UK. Funny how he's stopped supporting Brexit quite so loudly as of late. He's also known for complaining about too many non-whites in London.

Remember his show last year, "Cancel Me"?

John Cleese is to explore cancel culture in a new series for Channel 4. The comedian and writer – best known for the comedy classics Fawlty Towers and Monty Python – will "set forth into the minefield of cancel culture to explore why a new 'woke' generation is trying to rewrite the rules on what can and can't be said", according to the channel.

VOLUME AT THE MAXIMUM LEVEL FOR BEST EFFECT! VIDEO IS KEY TOO!

German parts translated:

[Chorus]
We're all living in America
America is wonderful
We're all living in America
America, America
We're all living in America
America is wonderful
We're all living in America
America, America

[Verse 1]
When we dance I want to lead
When you turn yourself around alone
Let us control you a bit
I'll show you how to walk right
We create a lovely round dance
The freedom plays from all violins
Music comes from the White House
And in front of Paris stands Mickey Mouse

[Chorus]
We're all living in America
America is wonderful
We're all living in America
America, America

[Verse 2]
I know the very useful steps
And I will protect you from missteps
And who does not want to dance at the end
Does not know that he must dance
We create a lovely round dance
I will show you the direction
To Africa comes Santa Claus
And in front of Paris stands Mickey Mouse

[Chorus]
We're all living in America
America is wonderful
We're all living in America
America, America
We're all living in America
Coca Cola, Wonderbra
We're all living in America
America, America

[Bridge]
This is not a love song
This is not a love song
I don't sing my mother tongue
No, this is not a love song

[Chorus]
We're all living in America
America is wonderful
We're all living in America
America, America
We're all living in America
Coca Cola, sometimes war
We're all living in America
America, America

Took a few guys to task who didn't get a reference to Animal House I made. I was gobsmacked he even saw the exchange. But then to enter into the fray and support me was astounding.

It was a politically charged thread in 2019. He stepped up to back a female being attacked by a couple of guys who didn't know either comedy or history.

I was a fan before that. A devoted one after.
