OAITW r.2.0
(24,504 posts)That post of mine was totally incoherent.
Should have stated '75-79 and it was the comedians not musicians that I was remarking about.
In 1975 I was down in NYC for a couple of months. I had the great opportunity to see the original SNL crew doing their pre-TV preparation at the New Paladium Theater. Had the playbill, but that's since been lost to time....

(9,998 posts)Watching Baseball. Haven't seen an SNL episode since May, and probably won't bother based upon what I've heard.
Also heard how they treated Rage Against The Machine, and for that alone, those who run the show can go Fuck themselves.

(11,611 posts)I would've thought they would've parodied the Wisconsin or the Georgia debates especially the latter. When Walker whipped out that badge it looked like an SNL skit. Please don't tell me they actually mocked the J6 footage?

Sympthsical
(9,074 posts)It is . . . uh . . . not at all for the demographic here. Like, at all. Sometimes, it feels like comedy is being reacted to like those Christians who keep watching gay movies and then writing angry letters about it. "We are tired of being forced to watch this content over and over again! How dare they!"
But that's ok. Not everything is for everyone. When I fired it up this morning, I immediately came here. I was like, "Oh, this gonna be some shit."
I could easily share two dozen skits from the past few years I've thought completely slayed it. Papyrus, Titanic Iceberg, Daddy Long Legs, Sara Lee, the Actress, the Brett Kavenaugh hearings, Cheques, The Duel, Mirror Workout, etc. But my favorite by far has to be Wells For Boys. I have a kitten who stares at his reflection in the fireplace glass pensively and it never doesn't make me think of it. Now if I ask my partner where the cat is, and he's at the fireplace, the reply is "Wells for Cats".
Or maybe I'm just grateful they have LGBT writers and actors now. Either way.

(28,205 posts).
It was harmless, but they really failed to satire the key takeaways of the hearing, which
would have been a solid. Instead, they appeared feeble as they had to resort to low-rent
caricature impersonations. Kenan was probably thinking the whole time, "Man, this sucks!"
Please put this out of its misery.

(21,482 posts)insurrectionists, or the Big Lie. It looked only like they ridiculed the people investigating them. There seemed to be no point to the skit, other than that the investigation and people doing it are not to be taken seriously.
I didn't even see any accuracy in the ridicule. For example, when people make jokes about Biden's age, there is a basis for the jokes, even if I don't agree with them, because Biden is old. But what was the basis for portraying Schumer as obsessed with food? Or portraying Schiff as loony?
The only part that was both funny and had a real life basis were the jokes about Liz Cheney's strength coming from being Dick Cheney's daughter.
The rest was grade school level gibberish, IMO.

(83,785 posts)Now I know why.
This was not cool.
We nearly lost our congressional leader, Pelosi. Most likely Pence as well. They are our second and third in line to the PRESIDENCY! Officers were beaten near to death. People died that day and some after. One had a heart attack, some committed suicide. Some like Fanone will never be the same again.
SNL needs to offer an apology. Our Democracy was at stake that day. I repeat Our Democracy was at stake that day and it is not a laughing matter.
We are still on a fine line. Time will tell if we survive.

(9,074 posts)It bothers me that people are this against their politics being joked about even when it's the other side getting hammered: "Is Mike Pence dead yet?"
It's probably a good thing people didn't watch past the cold open, because Michael Che's joke about Speaker Pelosi in Weekend Update was absolutely brutal.

I haven't watched any more of it, so I've not seen the Che Joke.

Didnt many leave end of last season?
I hated their characterization of Biden last season and sorta started writing them off.
If they turned that Jan 6th video of Pelosi & Schumer as well as the Jan6 committee last hearing in general, into misleading crap, Im done with them. Done. I cant watch.

(4,552 posts)Grasped at straws to mock Schumer and Pelosi.
It was cruel and stupid. The rest of the piece wasnt as bad as I was dreading based on comments here. The young writers think sincerity in a person is something to be mocked.
This is a trend in American culture.
Case in point: the ads where they tell you not to be like your old parents. It involves mocking simple gestures like complimenting servers or being helpful to others. Yup, something has been changing in humanity. Its called, oddly enough, humanity. Apparently its no longer cool to be kind. Manners are mocked and cruelty is the order of the day.

(33,345 posts)Very particular deli orders and kvetching about them are amusing to New Yorkers. That bit could easily have been written by a Jewish staff writer, too.
Remember the Seinfeld episode where George Costanza saved a whale from a golf ball hit into the ocean by Kramer? "The sea was angry that day, my friends, like an old man sending back soup at a deli."

I dont even own a TV and havent watched anything in 20 years and can still see how pervasive and consumptive in peoples lives the idiot box is.
Jesus we had a president who watched it constantly and used the medium to manipulate a certain sort of person to vote for him.
I mean take that show Yellowstone, please take it away. Whenever someone asks me about Montana, they ask me about that fucking show. My first impression is I am dealing with a dim shallow personality

(33,345 posts)The Liz Cheney's childhood speech was great. The Schumer jokes were a decent running gag (he's their Senator), the Pelosi imitation was fairly accurate, and most of what they had her say were direct quotes.

(7,809 posts)We quit watching Real Time a couple years ago. After they gave Prager time to spew his filth instead of going to New Rules, it was no longer worth my time.
SNL's cold open was awful. Megan Thee Stallion's monologue seemed to be okay at first. It looked like she was signing her monologue as she was speaking (too fast for me to get half of it, but whatever), which I thought was a very cool thing to do. Then I realized that her hands were just waving and giving us random gestures - not signing.
This season has been a disappointment. I fell asleep before the news. I'm not going to bother any more.
