"SNIP.......

A new Des Moines Register poll in Iowa shows Sen. Chuck Grassley’s (R) lead over Mike Franken (D) has narrowed to 3 percentage points, 46% to 43%, with less than a month until Election Day, signaling Grassley’s toughest reelection fight in 40 years.

Said pollster Ann Selzer: “It says to me that Franken is running a competent campaign and has a shot to defeat the seemingly invincible Chuck Grassley — previously perceived to be invincible.”

Goddard:

This would be a remarkable upset, but remember that all pollsters — even those well-regarded like Ann Selzer — can have outliers.

He’s 89 years old, and I can only assume at that age, the footsteps of mortality coming down the hall must be deafening. I heard that he’s terrified of Trump and terrified of losing. Why???

I guess he thinks if he loses his senate seat, he might come to the attention of the Grim Reaper.

that Grassley is biding his time so that his grandson Pat Grassley, currently a representative in the Iowa House, can take over his senate seat. But I've been hearing that for years, and don't know how true it is. The theory that he wants to cling to the power is as likely if not more so, in my opinion.

Grassley is 89 years old and yet he's still mentally and physical ok for office.

He's demonstrated in the few occasions a cognizant decline which ought to be considered alarming enough to pressure his resignation.

Oregon and Connecticut have close races? That seems so strange. Yesterday, there was a thread, asking for more money to go to Connecticut and there was a thread on Oregon saying the candidate was behind. It’s gonna be a weird election apparently.

That he would be presiding over the counting of Electoral College votes on Jan 6.

https://iowacapitaldispatch.com/2021/01/05/grassley-suggests-he-may-preside-over-senate-debate-on-electoral-college-votes/

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said he would preside over the U.S. Senate debate surrounding disputes of the 2020 election results if Vice President Mike Pence does not show up.

He suggested Pence was not expected to attend but Grassley’s staff later said that was a “misinterpretation” and that Pence was expected to be there.
