Angela Lansbury's link to Charles Manson resurfaces after death

Following the death of the "Murder, She Wrote" actress, fans publicly mourned her passing and many shared run-ins and anecdotes of their experiences with the on-screen legend. One of the most interesting stories came from writer and photographer Christopher Moloney, who recalled Angela moving her family to Europe to keep her kids away from Charles Manson.

"Angela Lansbury told a story about her daughter falling under the spell of a Hollywood deadbeat," he tweeted. "He would pick the girl up from school and get her to steal money and food from her parents for him. Worried, Lansbury moved the entire family to Ireland. The guy was Charles Manson."

So, why move all the way to Ireland? Wouldn't moving maybe to New York have done the same thing? It just seems like overkill.

1) the daughter was progressing to harder stuff (heroin) - and County Cork probably presented a better 'break' from that. 2) depending on what the age of the daughter was - this was a time when all kinds of kids were impulsively dropping out, and 'hitching' was absolutely commonplace, all over the country (but particularly to the west coast) - so, no, NY probably wouldn't represent a safe distance, from a compulsion like Manson/drugs. The daughter might well have been able to get a ride 'door to door' - on just about any college campus, on just about any day of the week.

and 3) as Lansbury explains, the move was a holistic 'family' and career thing (with family roots in Ireland) that had other elements other than just the one daughter (although that certainly figured). And Angela ended up being delighted with the move afterwards.

So was Sharon Tate, Roman Polanski's wife. So were the LaBiancas. He was a supermarket executive; she was the co-owner of a dress shop.

They lived up in the Laurel Canyon, home of some pretty pricy real estate.

And that is the difference between being rich and being poor.

Angela's daughter started using drugs; that's why they relocated.

It certainly doesn't seem as if the Tate party was aware of the murderous lunatics lurking about, tho drug use was popular among that sect.

He used psychedelics and other drugs to make them malleable. The book, "Helter, Skelter" is very clear about that. Manson was a lunatic.

paycheck. It is everyone's right to leave but it cost a lot of money to move your entire family to Europe. It is a lot easier for some people to leave than others.

…was low compared to America’s, and as far as I know has remained so to this day. Ever since the Great Famine, their principle export was people. It’s incredibly rural.

Angela Lansbury’s instincts about Manson were spot-on, as we know. We learned long ago, after the murders, that he was incredibly charismatic for a certain type of girl. Patricia Krenwinkle just had her bid for parole denied again, and will die in prison.

If this unknown guy with charisma was stalking and grooming Angela’s daughter, driving her from school for gods’ sake, giving her drugs — well, what would you have done, within your own means, if your instincts saw through him?

11. I thought it was her son who was involved with drugs.

But maybe it was more than one of her kids. I remember reading an article about it while her series was still in production that drugs were behind her move to Ireland as it didn't have the stress associated with living there that Southern California had. I remember because it discussed how her son was working on the series production in Ireland and doing well at it.
