did pre-symptomatic Alzheimer’s cause them to be careless, or did Covid cause the Alzheimers?

The study does not show that Covid-19 causes Alzheimer’s, but it adds to the growing body of research drawing links between coronavirus infection and cognitive function.

“In the Alzheimer’s disease brain, the pathology starts to build up about 20 years before the symptoms begin,” said Dr. David Holtzman, a neurologist who leads a research lab focused on Alzheimer’s disease at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

I'm "done with masking" when I'm outside. I've been "done with masking" outside for 2 years. My office has a vaccine mandate and daily reporting requirements. I don't mask there. So far so good.

On the bus or the train or a plane, or in a grocery, at concerts, I still mask.

This is literally never going to end and I'm not wearing a mask for the rest of my life. I'll get vaccinated with the new booster like the flu and live my life.

are two very different things. Our political leaders who have recently had COVID talked the good talk, but had largely abandoned wearing them prior to coming down with COVID.

A mask in ones' pocket, or car, or anywhere but on ones' face does no good.

I got the flu at least three times while working at daycare and colds several times. When I changed to a different rheumatologist (1989) she was shocked (this was long after working in daycare) I had never gotten a flu shot considering the medications I was taking. Have gotten one ever since and so has my husband. Haven’t gotten one yet this year, but plan to in the next couple of days.

I'm retired now so most of my shopping is during the day. Every person I see wearing a mask in the grocery stores is over 60. The younger ones are mask-less, but older folks are still masking up, even through the summer months.

I do see store employees wearing masks, even though they're younger than 60. It's probably required for their job, but last year the employees were probably happy that most of the customers wore masks. Now it's only around 10%.

7 per 1000 with Covid
5 per 1000 without Covid

https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2022/09/15/covid-alzheimers-disease-case-western-reserve/

“You have people who very much look like they have Alzheimer’s, but they do not have Alzheimer’s,” said de Erausquin, adding, “People who have long covid are at risk of being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.”

In their paper, the Case Western Reserve researchers acknowledged that the study was limited by the potential for inaccurate diagnoses of Alzheimer’s.

Davis, however, said she thinks it is unlikely doctors would mistake long covid for Alzheimer’s.

“To label somebody with Alzheimer’s disease is different from the brain fog and the confusion associated with long covid,” she said. “When a physician makes a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, it represents a substantial cognitive impairment.”

As with all medical everything, it will take time for the data to sort out. Vaccine up and mask up is always going to be the best option.

Helps avoid flu too.
