https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2022/10/17/white-house-covid-czar-calls-on-seniors-to-get-omicron-booster-now-.htmlDr. Ashish Jha, head of the White House Covid task force, said everyone older than 50 and senior citizens in particular need to get an omicron booster as soon as possible.
"If you're over 50, certainly if you're over 65, you've got to go get these vaccines because it actually, literally could save your life. It's a difference between life and death," Jha said.
Younger people should also get a booster this fall even though they're at lower risk of getting seriously ill from the virus, he said.

(21,675 posts)Did taking both shots really kick your ass? Because I had both yesterday, and I was sick all last night. Weak and tired today. Just wondered if it was a common side effect.

(24,566 posts)The very first shot I had made me ill, but I've been fine since then. We are probably all different in how we react.

(16,406 posts)Got one in each arm both times. Both arms were sore for a couple of days, but no other side effects.
Arm soreness is the only reaction I've ever had from either vaccine. I have no idea why some people react more severely. It seems to be a very individual thing.

Here's something else to know about flu shots: They are actually more effective if you get them every other year.

(51,594 posts)Since then I learned that 50% of students at a high school in San Diego City Schools called out with the flu within 1 week. I do not think this is completely due to lack of normal flu antibodies that were reduced by Covid masks/social distancing, etc for the last 2 years. Something else is a factor for this sudden and alarming increase in a single school in one of the largest districts in the US.
I had a bad reaction, compared to the other boosters (mainly severe, 5 day long migraine with nausea). However, I will continue to mask in public, socially distance and keep my overall health in good condition. I will continue to get current boosters since my reactions are nothing compared to how I would feel if I got Covid.

(21,675 posts)Flu or Omicron? I had severe nausea too.
BigmanPigman
(51,594 posts)since I get flu shots every year a d have never had a reaction other than a slightly sore arm. The Covid vaxxes and boosters have always given me a slight migraine but this time it has been much worse. When I have nausea from my migraines I know it has gotten to a more severe level. I get Botox shots in my scalp for migraines so I am sure it would worse without the Botox.
A friend who rarely gets headaches told me she woke up with one for 10 days after her Covid booster. I'm sure in the future that scientists will be able to find the connection between Covid and migraines. Neurologists have a lot on their hands trying to figure out long term effects of Covid and how it affects the brain.

(6,556 posts)Got the flu shot in late September. I am still masking in public and only go out for medical appointments and order groceries with curbside pickup. The treatment I get for my fatal autoimmune disease kills my B cells and reduces my T cells, so I don't get a lot of coverage from the vaccine.
