General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI just switched channels from Kornacki to CNN and got the whole story.
So, Kornaki is saying that Republicans are up 2.2% over Democrats to win the midterms and starts to go in and explain how this is higher than the midterms where Obama lost Congress to the Republicans, blah, blah, blah... I had enough of that and switched to CNN and they showed the bigger picture.
There are more independents than either Republican or Democrats and CNN's segment is about learning more about a group that might tip the elections, one way or another.

(31,827 posts)They used 2016 metrics in 2020. They didn't account for how awful things were for four years.

(182,818 posts)I wasnt listening. I just had it on after going for a run. He wouldnt get out if the way so we could see how the Republican incumbents are doing per polling. I got that 4 of them are ahead but get the hell out of the way.

(3,859 posts)and prior trends, and ignores a whole cluster of polls, including the larger and generally more inclusive and less "adjusted" YouGov and Morning Consult, where Democrats have consistently maintained a 2 to 5 point lead. Heck, even Fox News had to finally give in and put up polling data giving President Biden his highest job approval rating in six months, because the responses just didn't support "factoring" in what's not really showing up.

(14,752 posts)Polls are the currency they use to buy viewership, which drives ad revenues. The algorithms include audience participation, which shows they are engaged and in the room. These crazy poll numbers provide that. Karnaki gets msnbc's base angry and that registers well.
It's also why you see polls that favor dems on fox, though ironically fox polls are well regarded.
They mean exactly squat. Just vote, and drag everyone you know will vote with us along.
