The Democrats in Utah made the decision not to field a candidate for Senate this time around. Instead, they are supporting Evan McMullin, a former Republican, against Senator Mike Lee, an election denier.
This could possibly be the biggest upset in the upcoming election? Unless Chuck Grassley finally gets his due reward?
There could be surprises that the MSM is over-looking. Their focus has been limited to a few battleground states and they may be over-looking the votes of many average Americans that are simply fed up with the lies and the hatred of the Republican Party?
Evan McMullin could be who we are talking about the day after the election?
If so, it could be an earthquake across the American political scene. Especially if he is the tie-breaking vote in an otherwise grid-locked Senate.

(9,979 posts)I seem to recall that Angus King may have said the same thing once or twice. Evan may find himself caucusing with the Democrats on occasion, on bills that matter to him. I respect the guy. He is honest and a patriot, sonething that can't be said about any Repugs other than the two lame ducks on the Jan. 6 committee.

(26,330 posts)Especially since we made a deal and didnt run a candidate.
But I see some of the strategery. Had we run a candidate, we probably wouldnt be within striking distance.
Or would we?
Is he really going to allow Mitch to become Majority Leader if he can help it?

He would be the key to showing McConnell the finger but if we depend on him for the majority, Democrats are not doing well.

(52,162 posts)If we win 50 seats, then it will be 50D 49R 1 no party, then he negates the need for Harris but that is it. If we win 49, then the Senate will be 50 R, 49D, 1 no party. GOP would be in majority.

(33,345 posts)Let's say the senate is 50 D, 49 R, and McMullin. Dems control. McMullin is irrelevant.
Let's say the senate is 49 D, 50 R, and McMullin. Then what.

(59,503 posts)Let's say he wins and the Republicans get 50 seats. They STILL get the majority because with the Republicans at 50 and the Democrats at 49, there is not a tie for Harris to break. It is the same as if Lee won.
Note that if he wins and the Republicans have 49 without him. The only difference is that again there is no tie for Harris to break. We win 50 to 49.
