Teen, his dad shoot at woman they mistakenly thought tried to break in, Florida cops say

https://www.yahoo.com/news/teen-dad-shoot-woman-mistakenly-232836942.html

A 15-year-old and his father shot at a woman they mistakenly thought had tried to break into their home, according to a Florida sheriff.

The neighbor found that the medication had been mistakenly delivered to his door at around 7 a.m. on Oct. 15, Judd said.

He brought the medicine to the father and son’s apartment, where it was supposed to have been delivered, and left it hanging on the door.

The father and son saw Ring doorbell camera footage on their cellphones of a person at their door and thought that someone was trying to break in, Judd said.

They both picked up their .45-caliber firearms and went outside to look for the person they thought was trying to get in, he said.

“They’re searching for their quote-on-quote burglar,” Judd said . “There is no burglar.”

About 100 yards away from their residence, they saw a woman sitting in her car looking at her phone, “minding her own business,” Judd said.

The father drew his weapon, pointed it at her and screamed at her to get out of the car. She put her car in reverse and tried to speed away, but the son started shooting into her vehicle, Judd said. His father began shooting, too, according to the sheriff.

“The two of them shot at an innocent lady sitting in her car, where she had the right to be, looking at her cellphone,” he said. “They shot at her seven times.”

If that seat had been occupied, they'd have killed her child. As it was, the seat slowed the bullet enough that it went into her seat but not through it. This was a really close escape for her.

I just hope these two assholes aren't allowed to plea bargain down to "reckless discharge of a firearm" or something equally stupid. They went hunting for someone to shoot and they meant to kill her.

Somebody please lock them up so they can't do it again.

.

The woman wasn’t injured, Judd said, but one of the bullets flew through an empty car seat in the rear of the vehicle and got lodged in the driver’s seat.

“Our victim was that close to death,” Judd said, , “and, certainly, had there been a baby in the car seat, the baby would’ve been killed.”

According to the article the neighbor that brought their package to their apartment was a "he."

The neighbor found that the medication had been mistakenly delivered to his door at around 7 a.m. on Oct. 15, Judd said.

He brought the medicine to the father and son’s apartment, where it was supposed to have been delivered, and left it hanging on the door.

The poor woman they nearly killed was a long way from their apartment and minding her own business. She was not the good Samaritan.

They have very clearly defined ideas about the circumstances under which they'd be justified in killing someone, one of them even lamenting that the law prevents him from installing an automated motion-tracking gun turret on his barn roof to kill trespassers.

DU's NRA-friendly contingent has assured me for years that most gun owners aren't fuckheaded zealots, and I suppose that might be true, but I've met quite a few gun owners who absolutely shouldn't be allowed anywhere near firearms.

These two Florida assholes sound like the latter.

Common sense and some simple, easy to understand training would have prevented a loss of life in Baldwin's case.

If one is going to get a gun for self/ home defense, then far more advanced training and practice needs to be done. I suspect the two men in this incident , because of their actions, didn't have any .

This isn’t the first instance of Florida Man trying to murder a Good Neighbor.

but, I can guess.

It does indicate that the "dad" is 73...the son is 15. That means that some woman of childbearing age slept with a 58 year old.

But, it is Florida, so a good chance there aren't a whole lot of branches on that tree.

The fact that the media isn't revealing the races of those involved speaks volumes.

medication in the mail meant for the Colonacosta family. The neighbor went to the Colonacosta residence and left the package on the front door handle, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said ...

The home was equipped with a Ring doorbell camera, and after Colonacosta and his son got a notification on their phone of the camera movement, the two grabbed their firearms and pursued what they suspected to be a burglar ...

Colonacosta and his son exited their home and walked around the apartment building complex looking for a suspect, and later found a woman "minding her own business" on her phone inside a parked vehicle ...
